Hi All,

I'm proud to present to you The Roto-Grip Grand Illusion Video.

http://www.videoballreviews.com/grandillusion.html

My Take on the Ball:

Your prayers have been answered people...ok be honest, how many times have you tried throwing your cell on a house shot and it is just way too much ball...but you throw it anyway cause its just fun to cover that many boards?

Go ahead, raise your hands, dont be scared

Well now you can have the perfect compliment to the cell...the Grand Illusion is an awesome piece.  Gives you the same continuation and forgiveness of the Cell, but it retains energy so much better for a big backend move.  Its like roto-grip took the best parts of the cell and the best parts of the illusion and smacked them together into this ball...the funny part is, i think the ball actually compliments the Dimension a even better as far as ball motion goes.  The Grand Illusion gives me the same angular look in the backend as the Dimension, but about 5-6 boards right.

I have yet to find any negatives with this ball, but when i do ill let you know...i have used it on everything from cheetah to shark, with success...

GREAT follow up to the Cell...

Britton,

Thanks for the video.  This is the one new ball this year that I plan to add to my arsenal.  Really looks to be a versatile ball that will work on alot of different conditions.

Outstanding video, i have 1 slight request/question.

Any idea what the GI will do compared to a cell at 500 abralon + medium polish?  Thats now my cell is right now & i want something with slightly less hook, but a little more of a skid snap without being something that goes 55ft & makes a u-turn.

I guess the request would be for u to take your cell to 500 + med polish & let me know how it reacts compared to the GI.

Let me know

I've got a better idea Kinalyx, get a Grand Illusion and drill it how you think it will work to how you want it to. Then compare it to your Cell.

Britton doesn't need to change the surface of his Cell so he can compare it for YOU. I doubt you throw the exact same way as Britton

throwing the ball the same way doesnt really make that big of a difference, & in reality, our games are similar enough that yes, it would help me.

Plus, im not demanding that he does this, its a request for him to do something that would help me out a ton.

His whole purpose of the video ball reviews is to help people make smarter choices in their ball purchases.  I dont think he will be offended by me making a request, im not asking for another video, im just hoping he would have the extra time to change his cells surface really quickly & let me know what the outcome is.

I know I asked previously in the other post but I don't want to bump two threads, might as well ask here.

To the best of your ability considering you've never seen me bowl or know my style what are your opinions of?:

Illusion - pin in ring finger but a basic label drill

Pluto - pin next to ring CG under pin

Grand Illusion - same layout as the original Illusion

I know you said OOB cover the GI is stronger than the Pluto but with a stronger drilling on the Pluto how do you see the GI fairing?  Because of the new matrix in the GI's cover is it stronger over all regardless?  As you can see I plan to layout the GI the same as my Illusion and scuff the shine down some if need be.

Hopefully I'm not beating a dead horse.

That first Illusion is what Roto-Grip has always been to me:  flat.  Blah reaction with some pop.  But the past 4-5 releases of Roto, and talk about a total 180.  The Grand Illusion looks a lot like a Storm ball, both in color and reaction.  I wouldn't be surprised if that's the Reactor coverstock (it reminds me SO much of my Pyro and my buddy's Fired Up).

IMO is HAS to be stronger than the reactor cover.  I would say its at least a variant of the R2S coverstock, possibly a tweaked/weaker version of the R2X cover.

Never know, ive been wrong before.

Im with noodlejester on the Grand Illusion is really seems to look like and has similar movement to alot of Storm balls. I know Storm pours Roto, but this seems like a Storm made ball

They are all Storm made balls.  Ultimate Vision is the cover stock, but the formulation of the cover is along the same premis as the Cytoplasmic cover.  Less oil absorption with increased friction for an overall continuous roll.

R2S is close to Ultimate Vision
R2X is close to Cytoplasmic

Not offended at all Shawn no worries...unfortunately, with all the new releases, right now i dont have time to do what you are asking, but i can give you my opinion on what i have seen when the cell is polished.

I think the Grand Illusion for most shots is going to be stronger off the spot than a polished cell...with all the polished cells i have seen, the ball still retains some of its rolly qualities and doesnt get real angular (again this is just what i have seen not what i experienced)...i have been throwing the Grand alot lately and this thing just retains energy so much better than the cell for a bigger downlane move.  Like i said in my original post, this ball really provides a reation shape that for me mimics the Dimension more than the cell.  Dont get me wrong tho, the cell and grand illusion are going to make a heck of a 1-2 punch on ANY sport condition and longer house shots.

Hopefully this helps.

I thought someone told me/wrote the GI is a perfect Ball for speed dominated players with medium to low revs? Can it be true?
