Title: 2D, Nomad Pearl, or Hy-Road?
Post by: yo on July 14, 2009, 03:40:23 AM
so i put this post in the storm section as well but wanted to get some of the roto input as well.

looking for a good medium lane condition ball that i can use on a lot of conditions. basically a go to ball. i have a rouge cell but that is WAY too much ball to use on a medium lane condition. i just got into storm and roto grip and cant be any happier. i used to throw ebonite and the one pearl was my favorite ball. looking for something similar. thanks!

Out of those, I'd say Hy-Road.  Since you're basically looking at a benchmark piece, my opinion is that solids or hybrids are generally a safer bet.  I have heard, however, that the 2D rolls a lot like a solid with a little more pop.  I'm surprised you didn't mention the Nomad Solid, that would be an option as well.

If you choose the HyRoad, be careful how you drill it. My HyRoad is drilled pin under, 4x3 and is just as strong as my Virtual Gravity drilled pin up.

Yo:

If you want a benchmark, Nomad Solid.  HyRoad is a nice compliment too.

I had a Cell Pearl and sold it---didn't match up with my game. Either over/under or too many ten pins (burning out). I tried adjusting the surface and just could not find the right fix. It is a strong ball, skid flip and very angular. I am a stroker, ball speed around 15mph quibica.

I would reccomend trying a Cell Pearl before purchasing one. Some guys in our league love it. For me, the Gravity Shift and Virtual Gravity worked much better.

If you get your hands on a Grand Illusion, that might be a safe bet also. pin above the fingers is the way i pefer, but i dont know yor game. So for a true safe bet that wont be too jumpy or a dog, a Grand Illusion.

For me the Cell Pearl is money.  I have several, all different layouts, pin up or pin down.  I did keep the surface OOB. No issues what so ever and this is coming from someone who is known as "Mr. Bracket" cause I have been known to clean up and take a good number of brackets as they say.

Cell Pearl or the Phone Booth Ball as I call it,  is a geat ball.  It just seems to fit my game.
