Post by: thedjs on June 13, 2022, 07:58:13 PM
How will the new 4K fast surface compare with polished surfaces?

Storm already answered your question

Thanks.  In your opinion, could I expect the same reaction on a pearl ball with the new "no polish" as I might have seen with the old system of surface and factory polish?  I'm looking at the Global Burner Pearl, the Roto Grip Hyped Pearl and the Roto Grip Hustle Wine.  I think they were at 1500 base, but not sure.

Thanks for your help.

No way in this world or another is this 4000k anywhere near the old 1500polished. The 4000k is much slower and no where near  as sharp as the 1500polished factory finish

If you want to replicate the old 1500 polished finish, you can do it at home if you have a ball spinner.

It's basically 30 seconds with a 500 pad + 20-30 seconds with a 1000 pad + liberal application of Storm Step 2 polish.

I've done several balls now and you can't tell the ones I've done from the ones Storm used to do at the factory.

My biggest gripe with so-called 4k Fast, or Storm's general 4000 Abralon finish, is consistency ball-to-ball. Check out an Idol Cosmos on the shelf compared to a Reality Check, they're not remotely the same finish.

What you have to watch out for with the old 1500+polish finish is that it can get too sharp and too inconsistent off the dry. If all you care about is watching the ball go sideways, 1500+P will certainly do it for you. If you're bowling on a lot of sport conditions, you're probably going to a 3k or 4k finish anyway.
