anyone who has thrown Mars
« on: March 20, 2009, 03:11:49 AM »
My college team may be getting sponsored by storm/roto-grip and i was thinking of switching to them completely anyway. I already have a virtual gravity, hyroad, and cell pearl in my arsenal. The problem is trying to replace my Hammer Razyr. I was wondering of those who have thrown it, is it truly a dry lane ball? how does it react on the drier patterns?

I know this is meant for people who have thrown the Mars, but it is my experience in general that the planet line, while being entry level, is not really that much of dry lane equipment. The weakest ball is the Neptune which with a mirror polish will be a good dry lane ball but other than that it makes a pretty strong move even. From my understanding the Mars is meant to sit right between the Pluto and Neptune. I think it would require a pretty weak drilling to give you the reaction you want.

The closest ball to what you are looking for is the RotoGrip EARTH... but it is an Overseas ball and can't be found anywhere!

This is why I hope and Pray that RotoGrip will one day release that kind of ball in the U.S.

I think you will like the Mars.  Although the ball is stronger than the Razyr I it will the drier side of the lanes.  THe Mars gives me easy length like the Neptune but is much smoother off of the breakpoint.

PM me and I can help you with laying it out.

I drilled my Mars pin up 4x4 with a hole on the mid on my VAL.  In direct comparison with a Neptune drilled the same way it was much smoother on the backend and much less responsive to the friction.  The Neptune jumped in comparison to the Mars.

The first time out of the box I was bowling in a tournament: THS on HPL's ( a pretty soft surface).  I started the tournament with the Mars on the fresh with the front 8. Ninth frame I missed wide and hung a 7 pin.  Long story short the Mars gave me control of a fresh wet/dry condition.
