SD73 Classic
« on: February 09, 2007, 02:08:04 PM »
Anyone else having dents scratches? Mine also just cracked on the bridge after 7 games only, this cover has to be the softest I've ever had. If this is the durability I don't expect it to make 50 games. Very dissappointing for this price point, I've got 8 other Roto's and never seen this happen to any one of them.

I hav 2 of them and have no problems whatsoever. How big is the bridge and what are your pitches?  Either that or you bowl in a very poorly maintained bowling center.

3/16 bridge, all of my balls are drilled the same as for bridge and pitches have been for 20 years never changed. The only thing I have changed is the thumb slug went from 1 1/8 to 1 1/4. I have never had any cracking problems with any of my equipment. Just very disappointed. Also never plugged and re-dillled a ball either prefer to sell it and get a new one call it whatever I just don't believe in it.

Your bridge is too small. Reccomended bridge is min. 1/4".

Sell this one (per your requirements) drill another one with a proper bridge.  You can't afford to lose the performence this ball gives you.

I doubt the 1/16th will make that much of a difference.  I don't have the standard 1/4 bridge, never had any problems cracking.  I would say it was a bevel problem, pitch problem, or just bad luck.

Any chance its a scratch in the bridge? I've drilled 11 for customers so far starting about 1 month ago and havn't had any problems so far. All except 1 were shined and no problems on the surface. The 1 that was left in factory finished showed a lot of scuffs but easy to clean on the shop spinner.

Well I'll contact Roto and see what if there is anything they will do. Have not had any luck with responces to the last 3 attempts to contact them for drilling advise and cover prep on this ball or my Horizon Solid. They used to be the best company in respect to customer service but lately my attempts have fallen on deaf ears I'm sorry to say. That was what drew me to Roto I know that I'm not the biggest customer but after 12 balls in total and 4 ball bag and wearing thier shirts and hats proudly and the only bowler in my house in 3 leagues that uses Roto, I hope it's worth something. As I stated above All my balls have been drilled like this for 20 years and I never had a bridge crack or a cover crack, the only thing I've changed in all those years is thumb slug size in order to get more bevel to come out easier and that was 7 years ago. Ball maintenance is is my #1 priority.

One decent size nick near the track after I missed a 10 pin...probably something in the flat gutter was raised up and tasted the ball.  No harm in the way it rolls.  Does scratch VERY easily compared to other balls.

Tossed only 8 frames with it Thursday as there was a problem with many other balls on the rack coming back scratched up pretty bad.  SD-73 Classic was not reacting well with the HUGE volume of oil I saw, so I just decided not to bother.

Taking the small amount of polish I had on it off...can't believe I could not get this ball to move, but I have never seen this much oil...stopped the SD-73 cold.

I'll see what happens Thursday...maybe the center owner lowered all of our scores enough this past week.

Mine has some dings, the biggest one in the edge of the weight hole, but nothing to cry about. finally had enough oil last Tuesday to use it for an entire set, 224-190-299-713

No complaints here, maybe just to have not left the 4 pin on that last ball

Roto's customer service has always been great to me.  Just a few weeks ago, I had numerous emails answered in detail about one of their older balls (Retro Red).  What phone number or email address have you been trying?

Mark,I too have been exclusivly Roto 5+ years, and I think it's great that you have a relationship with people at the factory and that is wonderful and your are a great resource to us all here. What I have told people that show an interest in the equipment is that thier business makes a difference to Roto not like the other ball companies. Thats the whole deal here to what I am tring to say is that it seems that Roto is having some growing pains and hopefully will overcome them. Once that personal touch is gone then what is left? Another ball company with no personality to set them apart. Because what sets companies apart anyone can provide a product but it takes people who care to make the difference and add value. Perhaps this is the reason for other ball companies recent demisses. I'll stick to Roto till my arm falls off and that is that.
