Which Planet Ball?

JOG is coming up, and I'm looking for a ball that will give me another option on a shorter pattern. Right now, I'm throwing a Power Drive Sanded for the longer patterns, a Red Zone for the mediums, and I've got a Tropical Storm as my weakest ball. I'm looking for a ball that would fit between the Red Zone and the Tropical Storm, and I've always wanted one of the balls from the planets line.

How much do the balls differ? To my knowledge, from weakest to strongest, it goes Neptune, Mercury, Saturn, and Venus. Is that correct?

I'm a lefty, throwing at 17 mph with a pretty good amount of revs on it (I'd say I'm a tweener, though I don't know my rev rate). Right now I'm looking at the Venus the most.

I've got to say and many other think similarly: the Venus has to be one of the best medium-light (to as much as medium) oil balls made today. The light load of particles plus the pearl plus that core make a dynamite combination. Very flexible. Just don't drill it too weak unless you have a LOT of hand.

It seems to make mince meat out of 10 pins, s long as you have enough dry to make the turn.

I would definately say that the Saturn is far stronger than the Venus.  The Saturn for me with the same surface prep and drilling is slightly stronger overall than the Black Widow to give you an idea.  My pro shop operator said that the cover of the Saturn is similar to that of the vertigo.  The Venus on the other hand, being particle pearl with a fairly weak core should fit the bill quite nicely.  I personally am trying to decide between the Venus and the Jolt Pearl from storm as my dryer lane ball.  I figure that for myself 5 1/2" pin to pap with the pin 2 1/2" above the midline should be pretty good for the jolt pearl, while I would cut the Venus with a higher pin to combat the relatively earlier roll that the particle should provide.

hey mark
have a neptune on the way.  looking to have it fit under my pin down 4X4 venus on the shots with short, light oil in the heads with strong backends.  thinking pin up 6X4 to get through the heads but still finish with a kick.  does this seem reasonable?  bowled the california state tournament last weekend on this kind of pattern and the venus was just too much ball.

the california state tournament changed it's equipment rules.  no more checking stuff in and no limits that i could see on what you can bring to the lanes.  they just asked for one ball on the return and that your bags and stuff be kept back in the settee area.  just wish they would put more oil on the lanes.  every year we go it is short oil with screaming back ends.  it would be nice if they just gave us a medium length flatter pattern like the usbc open lays out.
with the shortness of the pattern, the neptune might have been perfect.

Fins,
  I would go with a sanded Odyssey if I were you.  LOL j/k man.  Your best bet may be the venus...it is just so versatile.  OOB its great on shorter patterns esp. when the backends are flying.  The particle will smooth out the backend motion for you without giving up carry.  And if its too much you can can take it down to about 1000 and it will be even smoother.  Its worth the buck for sure.

  I would think that after the Quest we will see the horizon bite the bullet. Its the oldest ball in the lineup along with the Saturn.  And then they will probabally finish the year with the dreaded disc. of the sd-73 and then the next "special" or "limited" release.
