Thinking about trying Roto: RSX & RS1?
« on: August 18, 2005, 12:22:55 PM »
Well, I have been using Brunswick for some time and am a little disappointed with some of the over/under their equipment has been giving me lately.  I don't want to spend a bundle so I was looking at the RSX & RS1.  If I purchase both and drill the RS1 (box surface) with the pin above the fingers and the RSX (800 grit dull) with the pin below the fingers, will that be a good 1-2 punch on typical house shots?

Aren't both 1500 polished out of the box?  Don't they have the same cover and core too?  I figured there might be too much overlap if I keep them at box surface.  I also figured a dull reactive solid (RSX) would give me a better midlane read and handle more oil than the box surface RS1.  Are those correct assumptions or am I way off?

Sir,
In my opinion, I would not go with the RS-X and the RS-1 for a 1-2 combo. Simply because the core diff. is so great you are going to have 2 early hooking pieces, and yes you can lay it out with the pin above the fingers but you will still have a STRONG midlane move.

You want a good 1-2 punch?  Go with wither the RS-X or Rs-1 and the Ressurection.  Now thats a combo.  Now the only determining factor is how much oil you want the RS-X or RS-1 to handle.  If you want a heavier oil piece go with the RS-X, for a more Med-Med hev, go with the RS-1. But BEWARE, putting an early rolling drill on either of these balls will give you just that.  I own both and their pics are in my profile.  The Rs-x gives me decent length and a nice snap on the backends, the RS-1 Rolls like I have seen no other Pearl roll before.  I have a vid with the RS-1 just do a search for it.

But back to the point, I think that you will find the RS core and the Ressurection core very complementive to each other.  If all you are looking is for HOOK HOOK HOOK, but if you want a combo that can be deadly on a pretty wide variety of conditions, go with one of the RS's and the Retro Ressurection.

Hope this helps,
BMM

Sir,

I like your first thought!

RSX cover is a Oracle Vision base....RG's new formula...much stronger than the RS1 ......for a 1-2 punch.....I'd do this...

Medium heavies to mediums
RSX - Either 800 or 1000 smooth , pin under, 4x3 ish....
RS1 - BOX conditions, pin over ring....5x4 ish ....

a THS dream !!!

RSX and RS1 are very strong off the dry.  If you are having over/under problems with brunswick equipment, you will have more over/under reaction with these balls if you drill them the same way.  You need to drill the a lot of the backend away from these ball.

Having both myself I would say they make a great 1-2 punch. RS-1 drilled 4 1/2 strong gets great length with big back end. RS-x 4x3 reads the mids and destrys the pins. Both in box condition

Nice video.  I am seriously considering buying the RSX and RS1 now...

Wilbert, your response troubles me a bit though.  I'll try to give you an example:  I have an Ultimate Inferno drilled with the pin below and between the fingers and the CG is in the center of the palm.  It is a great medium condition ball, but by no means the heavy oiler that Brunswick claims that it is.  It will skid and skid on oil with it's 800 grit dull finish.  How does the coverstock on the RSX compare to the coverstock on the Ultimate Inferno?
