Hungry for more Roto
« on: November 03, 2008, 08:15:02 AM »
Well, like a lot of people, I love LOVE my Cell.  I got it last year, and since I've got it I've used it nearly exclusively in leagues.  It was my second Roto ball, and it netted me my first 700 (714) a few weeks ago.  I'm also averaging a good 15 pins over last year (199 now).

Now then, my first Roto was a Venus, and I've hardly used it at all.  It has maybe 3 games on it total, but it was also drilled by a different guy, so I'm thinking about having my new driller look at it and tweak the fit.  It's never felt as good in my hand as the Cell.

Given that, I'm also thinking of picking up another Roto in the near future.  From what I can gather, 2 good choices would be the Grand Illusion and the Cell Pearl.  Can you guys give me some detailed differences between the two?  I've recently learned to play more of an inside line, but I'm a little fearful of doing it with anything weaker than my Cell.  I guess old habits die hard!

I currently own the Cell and the Cell pearl, geat 1-2 punch but I did have to tweak the cover on my pearl a little . I have the Grand Illusion coming in as well so I will let you know when I get this drilled. I do not believe you could go wrong with either ball.... Good Luck

The Grand Illusion is my 2nd favorite RG ball with the Cell Pearl being my favorite. You will be very happy with your Grand Illusion..

Can you compare the two of them, jkiser?  I would assume the Cell Pearl is a little stronger, and more flippy, while the GI would have a smoother and overall weaker reaction.

Splendorlex,

Greetings!

I have both and let me tell you what I see with mine.

Cell Pearl is drilled 4 3/4 by 5 which puts pin over ring finger and mb about 2 inches right of my thumb.  The ball gets through the heads easily and the amazing part is that when it hits the dry it doesn't act like a pearl but more of a smooth solid off the breakpoint.  Continuation just like the Cell and hits like the Cell.  Shot 768 tonight with it and it gave me lots of room and amazing carry..

My Grand Illusion is drilled exactly the same.  It gets about 3-4 feet more length and is the same of the breakpoint as the Cell Pearl.  When the Cell Pearl is too much, I make a quick change to my Grand Illusion and keep on killing the pocket.

I have a Cell for the heavies...and an Illusion for when the Grand Illusion is too much....probably the best 4 ball arsenal I have ever owned. I also have a Horizon Solid that is my Sport/PBA ball as it is soooooooooo smooth and consistent and perfect for the touchy conditions.  I have a Jazz for the serious scorched.

You can't go wrong adding both to your arsenal. If you love your Cell you truly do need to add the Pearl for some 1-2 punch...and the Grand Illusion for a 1-2-3 punch..

Hope this helps!

Mike

I got a Cell and it is definitely worth all the hype.  There are so many Cells in the league I bowl in it is hard to tell which one is yours on the rack.
