Title: Cell Question
Post by: Jock on February 26, 2008, 05:29:19 PM
Well, I cracked and have bought a Cell which is actually in the pro shop layed out and waiting to be drilled.

My question is the OOB surface.

It is supposed to be 2000 Abralon?  My Cell has a mirror finish OOB and is no way at 2000 Abralon.

Can I assume that, given the mirror finish, my new Cell will be more a medium oil ball than the heavy oil ball that it's supposed to be?

You might try it like it is.I have one at 1000,one at 2000,and one at 4000 abralon. The ball takes cover adjustments very well.Depending on the condition you bowl on and your release,it might be fine like it is.Don't be afraid to change it if need be.

Sounds like you got one of the overseas ones that Rotogrip inadvertently released in the states. Yes, the Cell is supposed to be 2000 abralon.  I just got my second one and will probably shine it up for the way I want it to be but you can easily knock that shine off of yours and it will be fine.

If I might make a suggestion -
Try the Cell at 4000 grit first before applying polish.
If you decide on polish, do NOT apply it over the stock 2000 grit surface but take it down to 600/800/1000 grit first, then apply the polish. Some people have found 2000 grit plus polish to be very over/under.

Well, I PM'd Roger on this one.

He told me that my distributer was one of the overseas customers that had asked for "polished" balls so mine is 500 Abralon + polish.

I'll give it a try like this as we see a lot more medium conditions than heavy.

Thanks to everyone for their replies and especially Roger.
