Venus vs Ultra Sonic
« on: March 29, 2008, 12:58:47 AM »
The Venus is a Particle Pearl (with very slight load of Particle)... and the Ultra Sonic is a regular Pearl.

Other than that, would it be safe to say that the Venus is a more recent version of the Ultra Sonic?

Has anybody observed these 2 balls to know what the difference is? I know my Ultra Sonic was super strong on the backend, but I haven't tried the Venus since coming back to bowling after a 2 year lay off... so I was wondering what the Venus comparable to?

In other words... Could it be said that the Venus is to the PLANET LINE, what the Ultra Sonic was to the SONIC LINE?

Thanks!

I think the Neptune would be closer. The Core on the planet line are pretty strong. I have the neptune and the ultra sonic. I think the Venus may be closer to the Mystic...

Right here are you saying that the Neptune is closer to the Ultra Sonic... as in, the Neptune is as strong as the Ultra Sonic???

I thought the Neptune was to suppose to be weaker than the "original" Sonic-X Pearl... And my Ultra Sonic was alot stronger than my Sonic-X Pearl!

Thanks!

Rick,

Ask or wait for Mark Curran's response. I don't remember seeing him throw the Ultra, but from what I do recall about the Ultra, while your statement is probably true, I suspect the Venus is a lot stronger than the Ultra ever was.

The Venus can easily handle as much as true medium oil; I don't think the Ultra could do that. In fact, I tried my Venus sanded to 4000 grit matte yesterday on a wet/dry tourney-like condition and it was too much. I had to put it away. (might have been a tiny bit of user error also. )

I tend to agree with Tloy's observation of the two balls. The Venus is definitely closer to the Mystic in strength and volume of oil handling.

I have three Ultras and two Mystics, and have thrown the Venus. I generally have gone more direct with the Ultras. But having said that, with surface modifications, two of my Ultras are very much capable of turning the corner, since they have a little more solid material in their pearlized/solid blend covers. This ball was a sleeper in my opinion, very good on some medium conditions, since you got a lot more midlane predictability.

But still, that planet core is strong, so I'd have to say that the Venus is closer to the Mystic, and the cover more able to be used on a variety of conditions.

In direct comparison, I'd say I use the Ultra on dryish, lite oil, and lite medium conditions(transitioning).Whereas the Venus could be used on lite oil, medium and some medium hvy conditions, with no loss of hitting power. So there is definite overlap, but just depends on what you like to look at going down the lane.

Ric,

In my opinion the Venus much stronger due to the difference in cover.  We went to a new vendor after the Ultra Sonic and it is much stronger.

Venus is at least 2 - 4 boards stronger on the back and a bit sooner.

Thanks,

How can I possibly add anything after Mark's and Roger's reply

I have the Mystic-Venus- and Ultra Sonic.

Mystic is pin over middle finger and cg in palm.
Venus is pin under ring finger stacked.
Ultra Sonic is pin in ring finger cg at 75 degrees.

Even with the drillings, there is a good 4 boards difference between each ball.

My Venus is my get me out of jail ball, especially when there is a burnt up track area. As long as my angle is good, I know it won't jump off the dry.

As Mark stated, the Mystic is much better at deeper angles. Great at letting me know when to move or switch based on it's backend reaction.

The Ultra has been a lot of fun for me. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, did I say loved? my Sonic X Pearl. Also liked the Super Sonic quite a bit. The Ultra is a lot longer than my Venus and very powerful off the spot. When the conditions are right, this is one hard hitting orb. A real good down and in option for me when they get fried up.
