Hi all,
I was wondering if you guys were having any issues with any of your R/G equipment cracking. Over the last year or so, I've had a RSX, RUSH, SAGA, and a MYSTIC crack on me. Now I admit on the RSX the pin was hit during drilling so I am sure that influenced it. But the RUSH and SAGA definately were not. R/G was kind enough to replace the Saga (the crack was from the WH) but I have not had the chance to ask about the Mystic. Its drilled close to the pin but not through it(I haven't checked yet) and it cracked through the bridge and from the pin. I was wondering whaqt you guys' experiences have been. I buy a lot of balls from R/G and I would hate this to be a regular occurance with R/G.

my sd-73 cracked after 8 games on the bridge it was 1/16 shy of the 1/4' suggested (all are 3/16) but no others have cracked and that is 16 in all so I don't think it's an issue. The SD has a softer cover than the others.

Over the 3 years I have probably bought 15 RG balls and only had one crack and that was the RSX, Drilled into the pin.... Otherwise no issues. Great company!!!!!

It's gotta be something on your end that's causing these balls to crack. Either that or you just have flat out terrible luck.

hope you are not leaving your equipment in the car all day or in the garage. Sudden change in the balls temp from cold to hot or vise versa will cause the ball to crack. Dropping the ball on the concourse or a hard surface on the bridge will cause it to crack as well seen it happen!!!

This has never been an issue with me and my stuff has not come in from the car in 3 years.
Not saying it cant happen though.

Well for everyone to know, I never leave my balls in the car whether it be Winter or Summer nor to I ever drop my bowling balls on to the ground or concrete even when I am upset(I hate when people do that) As far as the driller I do stay with one..but the fact that R/G replaced the Saga shows me that it wasn't drilling error. But the most recent was drilled by an online driller, could be his error but I haven't been able to get in touch with him just yet.

I now own 6 Roto pieces. I've had two of my balls crack at the bridge; my Battle and my Horizon Solid. However, I know that it's because of the drastic temp changes in Maryland, combined with the porosity of the coverstocks.

I had the bridge crack out on my Epic but that was only after hundreds of games of abuse on lanes that were in pathetic condition. Drilled it out, plugged it and re-drilled it, and going on at least another hundred games since with no problem. Personally I don't think RG balls are any more prone to cracking than any other company but that's just an opinion. My other RG balls have all had similar abuses with no problems
-
Well I just checked and the pin was drilled into. So I am guessing that is why my Mystic cracked on me. And I am sooo mad, oh how I love this ball. But at any rate, I am going to contact the driller because I don't want to plug the ball and I think that if it was not drilled improperly that they owe me a new bowling ball. What are your thoughts?

Why don't you just plug it?

Everyone touched on a lot of topics and other reasons for why a bowling ball will crack. One thing not mentioned that most people don't ever bring up is the simple fact that your bowling ball hits 30lbs of pins non stop for 2-3 hours every time you bowl. The constant pounding and pressure against the pins and the machinery in back is bound to help cause the issue of bowling balls cracked.
I don't have any scientific proof, but if you think about it...logically it makes a lot of sense.
Glad the pro shop guy took care of it for you. If not I probably would have.
Thanks for the continued support.

Actually close to 40 pounds since my center uses 3.6-3.8 pound pins.
-
I have had a Mystic for a couple weeks. Punching the Cheetah in the face as well as various other uses. No cracks yet...
