Title: Cracking for the Odyssey???
Post by: Ric Clint on September 13, 2008, 01:59:44 AM

Has anybody seen any or had any ODYSSEY's to crack?

I know there was an issue with the Mystic's cracking, but I am wondering if there was a problem with any of the ODYSSEY's?

Also, how would a "polished" ODYSSEY compare to a MYSTIC?

Thanks!

I have one with a crack next too the ring finger insert right now, it will explode by next year.

Storm/rotogrip balls crack left and right I have lost 10 this summer alone, 4 out of warranty and 6 being in warranty.

I have a split in half Shift SLT and Horizon Solid sitting next to my garbage can right now, The SLT is under a year old but the Storm rep does not return my email to him. It is an internet ball so my shop cannot help me, so i guess that I am up sh1t creek.

Ric,

Do you have a cracked Odyssey or are you just looking into a ball choice?

We did have some trouble with the Odyssey as well as the Mystic.  Both are discontinued and currently out of production.

As for your comparison question the Mystic should be longer and 2-3 boards sharper on the back.

Barry - Lee will take care of your replacement.  Not like you don't have enough bowling balls.  You'll get taken care of.

Hey Roger,

Yes, I was looking at the ODYSSEY as a ball choice. I've bought over 20 Roto Grip balls in the last couple of years... and prefer the Roto Grip line over ALL the other ball companies! Roto Grip has matched my game better than anything I have ever thrown!

I actually just bought a NIB 15lb Odyssey from a guy on the internet that had some balls on Closeout! It should be here tomorrow on Wednesday!

Maybe this Odyssey came from a good batch! Which brings up this question: was there an issue with ALL the Odyssey's that were produced, or was there just a certain "production run" that had some issues? I just thought that I could look on the box when the ball gets here and see what batch it came from by looking at the date it was made and the serial number?

Thanks!

Have had the ODYSSEY for a few years with no issues at all. The only Roto ball that cracked on me was an Epic Battle, which was still under warranty, and was replaced. The second one is still good. I have about 10 roto balls now with no issues.

Ric,

It wasn't so much all the balls.  We were just using some material that wasn't as strong as what we are using now.  So we had some slight breakage issues which was compounded by certain players styles and where they bowled.  I'm sure you will be fine and if you ever have any trouble we always back up our products.

Are there any more Odyssey's out there....anywhere?  My first one cracked all the way around, I'd had it for about 10 months, my shops supplier still had some so I was able to get it warrantied.  I've had #2 for about 10 months now and it is now in the process of cracking.  Strangest thing I've ever seen, it started from the x hole and went toward and on past the pin...

Anyway, If there are any 16 NIB left can someone let me know where?  This ball just gives me a look that nothing else ever has...I'd surely like to have one in time for the us open.

shadz:  I believe World Class Pro Shop in Capital Plaza has a 16lb NIB Odyssey (along with some other older 16lb Roto equipment).  PM me and I could work with you to get it to you.  I believe the price is $149 but I don't know if the owner would be willing to deal a little.

np with odyssey so far

most angular solid ever
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I had mine crack on me all the way around. Funny story about it and it will go to speak about how good Roto cust. service is.

I shipped the ball back to them directly as I had bought it online. A couple months passed by and it slipped my mind entirely until I got to Albequerque for Nationals last year and went to their booth. So when I get back to my room I decide to call up Roto Grip and ask what the status was and why I hadn't recieved a new one yet.

As it goes, there was some issue in their recieving department and so the cracked one got held up somewhere along the line and the customer rep. said someone would give me a call back later in the day.

Well lo and behold, later that afternoon I get a call from Roger N. the brand manager and he apologizes repeatedly and tells me to go to the booth tomorrow and tell them who I am and there will be an Odessey waiting for you.

Pretty cool, I thought. Still have that one NIB. HAHA.

side note: my first one was a killer, and yes very angular.
