For those that have the new Critical, how is it working for you? I am looking at getting one.
-
Thought this one would be generating a little more hype than it is.
-
I pick mine up in an hour. Will throw it tonight.

WHAT? You're kidding. It's old technology. As soon as RG mentioned it had the Theory core, I could see dozens of bowlers here saying, "I don't want old technology" I have to have the latest and the greatest, no matter how well this "old technology"works. :)
Fools!
Between the Critical and the Eternal Cell, RG AND Storm should discontinue every other asymmetric for the next 5 years. Outside the original Virtual Gravity, the Cell and the Theory are 2 of the best 5 balls made, by anyone, anywhere, in the last 15 years. Those cores are pure magic. (The Eagle, the Black Widow and the Mastermind round out that 5, for my money.)

The market is so saturated right now, nothing is generating a continuous buzz. When the "next" best is only 45-60 days away....

Well if that's the case I feel sorry for the people that think the theory core is old technology. I'm glad I'm not one of them.

Boy, you're sure on a crusade against bowling balls lately.
Look, I agree with you, bowling ball technology isn't changing much. We're suckers for buying new stuff. But, you DO realize we're on a website that was created entirely to talk about new bowling balls, right?

My 4th game with old technology (drilled a brand new Critical Theory up just before the new one was announced)
Charlest, what about the X Factor Rad core?

But they're talking about unused balls, brand new one that are not even in anyone's hands yet and they're exclaiming how great they are. It's sheer stupidity.
Even in the best cases, they thrown one good series and that ball is the next best thing to sliced bread.
Heck, at best, if they've averaged 240 for the past 3 months using one new ball and they had a 200 average, they should only say something like "this balls seems to have potential". Most times, they're childish little "fan boys", hyping balls worse than the manufacturers. All they do is exaggerate.
That's what I'm tired of.

Charlest, what about the X Factor Rad core?
What about it?
I know a number of people liked it, but, to my eyes, it doesn't compare to the ones I mentioned. There will be any other number of candidates that people will have liked and think belong among the best. Those are mine.
Sorry, I sidetracked this thread; that's discourteous to the original poster.

Are you turning into the "get off my lawn" guy?
-
Lol im a huge fan of the theory ball. I got a NIB Theory, infinite Theory and Critical theory stashed away.
The new Critical is one of my Xmas presents from the GF...gotta wait, fml..
Anywho IMO the core is as good as the cell. Where the cell has midlane, the theory core produces great back end on top of have a cell style motion.
And for mid price, a few more than a haywire...I'm down! :)
-
Plus minus a virtual re-release and a second dimension come back...Roto and storm have a super complete line.
Storms top end is bad though... No where near as good as Roto...for years now
I do high end Roto
Mid and low end storm
Too many did storm high end balls, and usually the Roto low end hook too much.
But Roto is strong enough to be almost thrown exclusively. Throw in the IQ Tour and hyroad, plus Roto Grip..and your "F'n Solid!"
-
Back to the original question....
I threw mine last night. I changed surface to storms 4000 before I even threw it. This ball is strong..........at 4000 its cleaner than the Haywire, still reads the midlane very hard and smoother off the break than the Haywire. Hits like a truck.
I can say that I hate the color combination of both this and the Haywire. It's very very hard to read both balls in my opinion. Hard to see what they are doing until they actually do it. It surprised me a few times, I did t think it was going to move and all ID a sudden it was in the pocket. Really played trucks on my eyes.

Storm's (high end) LOCK is a fantastic ball!! If you don't have one get one. If I could sell my Haywire - I would get a Critical in its place, and probably will anyway!
-
I really want a critical but no one is talking about it... how does it compare to a haywire? And metal how good is the lock?
-
Dude mine hooks feet---all back end.
It's like a sinister, but hooks more.
Exactly reminiscent of the critical theory, except you don't have to shell out 300 bones for one!
I was surprised at how well the ball:
-Is unique in my bag.
-Replicated the original critical theory (saved me from putting holes in my nib trio of the line)
-performance for the price is one of the best I've seen, comparable to the widow line.
-Gets down the lane and violently kicks off the pattern. I'm hoping it calms down after 30 games cuz good lord.
Take my experience as a good one, I didn't speak up on balls like the dream big, menace, any of the !Q's, the crux...
The hyper(s), sinister, and now this got me nearly throwing all roto. Couldn't be happier!
-
Oh yeah it looks ugly in your hand, but great going down the lane. That gray is barf on the eyes until its rolling.
The only better you can spend your $130ish on is a !QTS or a haywire, or any of the widows..
-
Currently I have a haywire. Been thinking of a critical just cause. How is yours drilled billdozer? Been considering a lock possibly too. My current arsenal consists of a haywire, revolt havoc, forza redline, and a tag. That's from strongest to weakest. Would a critical or anot iq solid fit better in my arsenal?

That's a perfect "just cause" ball to get.
It would be neck and neck with your revolt havoc for the 2nd spot in the bag. The cover is advertised as weak, but really, its to get it down lane.
Pin is about 4" from my pap...
Thumb ended up about 4" from my pap..putting it about an 1.5" from the thumb.
Pretty much everything is a smidge outside my ring finger all the way down.

Weighed up legal...probably putting a hole in it tonight to calm it down..
-
So it's actually weaker than than the haywire?
-
Would it be more beneficial to me to get an iqts than a critical?
-
With both balls( Haywire and Critical) at same surface its a toss up of which ball is stronger. I seperated them by surface and have a distinct place for both balls. I like them both a lot.
The IQTS will be much weaker. The Critical at 4000 reads the mids much harder than the IQTS.
I carry 4 balls to my leagues.
Critical
Venom shock
Lights out
Plastic
Venom shock and lights out are 2 of my 3 favorite balls ever. So that puts the Critical in good company.
-

Haywire is all midlane, critical is all back end. Both cover a lot boards..
-
Is there another ball that would fit in my arsenal better than the critical?
-
I really want a critical but no one is talking about it... how does it compare to a haywire? And metal how good is the lock?
Again I would like to get a Critical, but since my Lock is working so well, I just don't need to at this time. What I like about the Lock is that it does not over re-act at the back end. It is very smooth and rolls very strong. It does save all of its energy for the pin deck. It also takes covers changes very well. So for now it is my go to ball! Eventually I will get a Critical, I just don't know when?
-
I figured the lock would be am awesome ball but strong

I got the critical, and still want a lock!

With so many choices out there, unless you are on staff or work at a pro shop, it's hard to go out and buy every ball. Then you must figure out what layout you believe will work the best. But every once in a while, you get lucky, and it all matches up. Not very often does a ball increase your confidence to a higher level. Well that's how I feel about the Lock. It has a predictable and forgiving roll. Billdozer I believe you are getting this feeling with the Critical. I hope I will sometime. I am sure you will when you get Locked in. I have had better series/games and so far one 300 on 1-3-16 with it. Bottom line is Storm or Roto both make great stuff. It is just getting lucky on the match up, but when it comes together, look out!
