Title: Dare Devil Danger
Post by: Davidmccay1974@gmail.com on December 14, 2017, 08:26:07 AM
My PAP is 5 ¼ X 3/4”. I drilled my Dare Devil Danger with a Standard Layout. What I was trying to accomplish was losing some of hook and control the ball better. My Rev Rate is so high that when lanes breakdown I have a tendency to lose the pocket for a few frames. So my thinking was drilling the Dare Devil Danger with a standard layout hoping for some length with a smooth backend with better control and not snappy.

What I got was a ball that reads the middle part of the lane well, transitions smoothly and reads very well on the backend. I was standing 22 throwing out to about 7. The ball tracked out well and when it reached the backend it was not a snapping hook but better, controlled hook with great hitting power. I could not be happier with the layout and I have finally found the ball that is good for the transition. I bowled games of 220, 232 and 225 out of the box. Great ball for the price range.

Standard layout!! Brilliant!!! Why didn't I think of that???

Please stop posting just to fulfill your staff contract. You're doing Storm more harm than good.

+1,000. Standard for who? Thank God Storm has Luke, or they'd be in deep deep stuff....

Have to be honest and say its not sour grapes when I say I am glad not be on staff with anyone.  Don't get me wrong wish I was that good to be flattered but contracts yeah not for my hobby.

This is my first post in this forum and after reading all of this guy's reviews, I feel it's a good place to start.

There are a lot of people in my area (New Hampshire/Massachusetts) who are on staff with various ball companies and a lot do the same thing; post reviews claiming how great every ball is or keep trying to push you to buy from the company they represent. I get it, you want to promote the brand. It makes me appreciate honest reviews like Luke's and Tamer's. I don't need to hear how great every ball is, I need to hear how it will translate to my game.

I just started switching over to Roto/Storm from DV8 because the stuff is rolling better for me, and a lot of DV8's new stuff doesn't interest me much these days. I appreciate all of the info in these threads and look forward to continued conversations.

Storm makes some great balls no doubt about it but they also rarely discount anything.  Seeing them re-release the Marvel Pearl at that price point wow.  Its their business model and it works for them I suppose but often there are other balls just as good (with a few exceptions aside) for 2/3 to half the price.  Then again I am a bit of a ball junkie who loves trying all the brands.  Have to admit for a single digit arsenal hard to go wrong with Storm/Roto and everyone matches up different with different brands.

I agree. You can't really go wrong with all of the equipment out there, certainly a ball for everything that cna be thrown our way. There was a time where I would shop the bargain bin of the stuff that was discontinued, still do actually. I don't need top-end stuff to score, I trust my ability enough. Heck, my Diva Xoxo only cost me $60, plus drilling, quite the steal if you ask me.

I'll jump and make a purchase if I like what I see. I don't look to fill a specific gap. After watching the videos of the new DV8 stuff, nothing screams at me. The Black Widow urethane looks good though, especially with that core. The Show-Off looks like a bargain as well.

Will give Storm/Roto big props though for having reasonable pricing on the Hustle Ink as well as not charging top shelf for the Hy-Road original even though its well worth it imo.  Will never hear me not recommend that ball for every arsenal.

Storm/Roto has to delay releasing stuff because everything is so popular they can barely keep up with current production, they have no need to discount stuff to get it out of the warehouse  ;D ;D ;D

Storm makes filler balls too that quickly disappear from the market.  Storm has some classic pieces worthy of any arsenal but charging $150+ for 5+ year old balls is a heavy lift.  Like to see some middle ground and seems like Motiv has balls at good price points but to be fair so does Storm/Roto just not always.

Ok I’m going to go to bat for Dave as the person who has bought 10+ of his used equipment I’ll tell you that standard drilling for him is normally with ball drilled label pin directly over the CG or his favorite layout that’s the 4x4x2 with a hole roughly 1-2 inches right of the thumb (believe it’s called P4?) he’s a high speed really high rev bowler and as for his IQ grammar does not define a man normally he’s not big on polished hybrids I remember the hywire was not one of his favorites I say that to let y’all keyboard warriors know he’s a honest man if he says he likes a ball he means it the ones he does not like he typically won’t do a review on

Wish I could be on staff and have other people make my points for me, explain my layouts, etc. He's on staff for a reason...

1. Grammar does not make a man, but professionalism is important.  It seems like he puts all of 3 1/2 minutes into writing his reviews, it's all a jumble, all over the place, gives zero pertinent or important information, and then he never checks back to answer questions or clarify anything.

2.  If he was honest, he would review the stuff he doesn't like too, that way it wouldn't seem like he's just getting on here to sing the praises of absolutely everything.  Seems like he's just trying to talk everything up like a typical staffer.

3.  Perhaps the biggest issue here is that you say you've bought 10+ of his used balls . . we aren't allowed to sell them after we're done with them, that's a big no-no.

Luke, this is why everyone on the board and your youTube channel appreciate your reviews, opinions, and videos so much as they are honest and well done.

And balls that you review but don't use in your arsenal what are you allowed to do with them? Just curious as I have bought used balls with low games from a buddy who is not a staffer but bowls a lot of tournaments and have had great use out of them. Are you allowed to give away?

They ask us to donate them to local youth/high school programs, so that's what I do with most of them, I also have a stepson that gets a lot of them.  Some I keep stashed for tournaments.
