Just received 2 new balls from Roto Grip. No Rules and the Dare Devil trick. Hoping to use the DDT as my benchmark ball. I was wondering if anybody has used the DDT as their benchmark and if so want surface did they use. Ball comes OOB at 2000,same as the No Rules. I was thinking about lightly polishing my DDT . Currently have No Rules, Alpha Crux, DareDevil Trick, No Rules Pearl, Tropical Heat Hybrid and Desert Ops as my main 6 balls. Also what drilling did you use to make the DDT a smooth rolling benchmark ball. My PAP is 4 1/4 over and 1 1/2 up with 16 MPH and a fairly low rev rate. Appreciate the help.

A benchmark ball should be the ball you use to initially read the lanes. From there you should have stronger and weaker pieces that you would go to ideally after you get a read from your benchmark ball.
I use a asym hybrid as my benchmark. After throwing that, I determine what is needed, if it skids too much, picks up too soon, snaps off the dry, etc.

I wouldn't really call a Trick a benchmark unless you are speed dominant. But if you want to try and make it, you're definitely going to need a higher surface for it to work.

Yes, definitely

Thanks everybody. I was hoping with a touch of polish on my Daredevil Trick I could use it as my benchmark ball. I could go up to my Alpha or No Rules or down to my No Rules Pearl, Tropical Heat Hybrid or my Desert Ops. Looks like I will have the heavy stuff covered. Just worried I don/t have much for the medium stuff. This is why I might take the Trick up to 3000 with some light polish.

Well if you want a cheap option that will handle any medium condition out there (as well as many heavy and even some dry) tough to beat a Burgundy Hammer. Super versatile piece as long as you don't mind a very smooth roller that is basically the opposite of skid/flip. Or of course you can always go with a Hy-Road which is pretty much the medium benchmark ball of choice for seems like everyone but me.

Asym balls typically aren't even enough to be true benchmarks imo.

I dunno about anyone else. But it's such an easy ball for me to throw. I love my no rules pearl when I have oil to play with. But it turns hard left pretty early in to some sets. However I can throw my DDT on almost all conditions based on it's controlled roll

So you have your no rules pearl above the daredevil Trick? My NRP hooks less then the DDT but I haven't changed the surface on the NRP I have read that quite a few people have broken the shine on the NRP to calm it down a bit.

I have my DDT as benchmark.
My line up is:
Hyper Cell
NRP
DDT
Spare tire
I am working on filling the gaps. When my NRP is too squirts I can step down to the DDT easily. It also is my first ball out to tell me what the lanes are doing.

I have my No Rules pearl below my Dare Devil Trick. Really goes long for me. Thinking about breaking the shine on the NRP. Pretty good 5 ball combo for me. No Rules Dare Devil Trick No Rules Pearl IQ Tour Desert Ops

Dare Devil Trick is a pretty good benchmark. Because it doesn't have a dominant reaction characteristic, it will pick up on whatever the lane is doing. Very easy to adjust off of it.

Thanks Luke Love your videos. Very helpful
