More thumb slug issues

Here we go again!!  My TA took 7 slugs until 1 stuck and, now, my Apocalypse slug is coming loose again!!  They use Turbo urethane slugs -- is there anything about the shell on the Apocalypse that may be causing this to happen??

Possible caused for the slug to slip:

Slug scuffed? (previously mentioned)
Drill bit/drill press vibration creating a slightly bigger hole and a loose fit for the slug.
Old super glue.  If it is over a year old it does not hold.
Grit left in the hole when the slug is inserted.  Not a clean bonding surface.

If you keep drilling a slug into the same hole, it's almost impossible to his it within a 1/1000th of an inch so that you do not make the hole that much bigger microscopically.  That's why it won't stay.  Plug the hole, then reslug.  And scuff it with 320 before you glue the walls to insert the slug.

He said he's going to scuff it with 180 grit before inserting it this time.  I told him he should probably plug/redrill, but he seems to think it will fit, just needs more surface to bind to.  Don't know what kind of glue they're using -- I just have a feeling if they get it to stick, it'll have a gap between the slug and the ball, just like the time it didn't stick right....

Give Dave Sill at Turbo a holler, he'll give you the skinny on the care and feeding of those slugs (Super nice guy!). BTW, how's the SlickTape working?

Have your driller take his rasp he uses to open thumbs with and use that on the outside of the slug and go over the entire outside and make alot of gouges in the slug. This will give the glue more surface area to bite onto and also put a good bead of glue about 1/2" down from the top of the hole and then drive that slug in with a hammer or mallet until you can't go any further.  This is how I do it with all my customers and have not ever had on come loose.  Hope this helps.

I highly suggest plugging that area and re-drilling it.  If you aren't already into a 1 3/8" slug, go larger.  This will ensure that it is a new tight fit.  After you re-slug it once or twice the hole is large.  If their is a gap in between this is what he should do:

slowly drip glue down the open area and then quickly spray master quick-patch accelerator.  This will bond the glue instantly to the slug and the surface of the ball.  I do this until it is overflowing out the top, wait 10 mins and then cut down the slug slowly.

This eliminates any gap problems.
