Title: eternal cell
Post by: thewhiz on September 20, 2016, 02:24:42 PM
My eternal cell is not performing like it did last year.  I soaked it in a bucket of hot soapy water.  Did not help.  My center put more oil out this year because last year by the 2nd game the lanes were burnt up.  Maybe that's why the ball is not doing what it did last year.  I am ready to get some new equipment.  Not sure what else to do.  The owner said he added more oil but shortened the pattern.  I am not that knowledgeable on the oil patterns.  I just know what they tell me.  The ball is nowhere near what it was last year.

Have you added surface to it? A shorter pattern with more volume can play tighter than a longer pattern with lighter volume. If your ball isn't slowing down in time to read the pattern, you'll need to change the surface.

No have not.  I thought a shiny ball meant more backend.  Maybe I am wrong.  What kind of surface would you add?  2000?  I have the abralon pads and a spinner.  Can do it no problem.

Yeah, I would do a full resurface with the end result being 2000 or maybe even 1500. Even if you end up having to get a new ball anyways this is always the first step that should be taken.

Generally shiny/polish does mean a longer motion with more snap on the backend, but it sounds like the problem you're describing is the ball getting too far down the lane before reacting. You want the earlier grab that surface on a ball provides.
