Title says it all Satan.  What say you?

I am getting a Solid early August like to hear what you have to say.  Always value your opinion.

Thanks!

Scott-
In case Steve is too busy to chime in here I will pass this along.  I talked to him via email 5 days ago and he said he had a couple of the solids punched but was out of switch grip sleeves so he hadn't tossed them yet.  The same goes for a pearl but I don't think he's even punched it yet.  He told me he was expecting the sleeves any day and would let me know his impressions.  I'm as interested as you are to hear what he has to say about them.

Thanks Don.  Looking forward to hearing from Steve.  Solid interests me more than Pearl.

Rob B./Sun Prairie has extra SG's if you read this Steve.

Hey guys,
I'll text Steve to see if he has tossed them yet... I was out
at his shop friday and tossed the Nomad Pearl(pin over bridge) test ball side by side with my original Silver Streak Pearl(pin under) and Silver Streak EX(pin up)on the Scorpion.. The Nomad Pearl does roll like the Silver Streaks
but with the "new" cover makes a more defined move on the backend.. I'm meeting with Steve tomorrow afternoon and will hopefully toss the Nomad Solid test ball and report back here..

Scott, Raven, tberk:

I did have a chance to throw 3 yesterday 2 solids and 1 pearl.

Nomad Solid #1 - 5-1/2" x 45* x pin under bridge. P3 x-hole
Nomad Solid #2 - 5-3/4" x 60* x pin under middle. no x-hole
Nomad Pearl #1 - 5-3/4" x 45* x pin over middle. P2 x-hole

Nomad #1 was patterned after my favorite SS solid from years ago.  This ball is smooth and strong as you would expect and I had a flare split of 3/8" with a total migration of almost 7".  BUT, with that much flare it smoothed out the reaction overall.  What tberk said is true, same great move from the past, just more defined off the spot because of the update in cover.  I will hopefully get a chance to throw it this weekend at the Midwest PBA Member/Non-Member doubles tournament with Riggs.

Nomad #2 was patterned after a favorite drilling I had in a Horizon Solid I crushed with.  With a pin that weak it keeps the flare lines tighter and I can go straighter through the front part of the lane.  On Scorpion yesterday it got easy length (OOB) and gave me a hard, defined move.  It's hard to describe: think something like a smoothed out hockey-stick shape, if you can imagine that.  I would guess the flare potential in the ball has something to do with it looking like that.  I think this is going to become a favorite ball for me when I have to go left-to-right or go around the pattern and still get it back.

Nomad Pearl #1 was a new layout I haven't tried before to give me another look with the Nomad solid #1 and a Virtual Energy I drilled.  This one makes me move the feet in more and gives me the ability to fire right and watch it come back. vs. the NS #1 and the VE I tested against.

BONUS Nomad Pearl #2 - This for me is 5-1/2" x 65* x pin over bridge.  THIS BALL WHEELS BACK from anywhere I throw it.  I was shocked to see in two speed dominant guys I had throw it how much down lane angle they were able to create.

Considering the admittedly so-so success of the Illusion/Grand line, those who choose to pass up these balls thinking they are "the same old thing" are in for a sorry awakening when they get passed by everyone else on the prize list.

PS - Benal, YES, you can get a Nomad Solid for your oil ball - just hit it with 1500 and compliment the layout with the one we talked about.  I think you'll love it.

Thanks for the info. Steve.  I remember you tossing the old Silver Streak Solid at Willow Creek deep inside and it really worked well for you.

Now you've got me tempted to drill up a Nomad.

I went thru a case of Silver Streaks.

I had several of the Silver Streaks and I can see similar reactions, only stronger. The Nomad get easy length, but the angularity at the break point is flat out amazing! I drilled two solids and wanting to drill the pearl until I know how much different I want the reaction compared to the solids! Another great release from Roto Grip, kudos to Roger and Hank! Bruce

Nomad's are the 3 to 1 choice over the next closest ball of those who have picked their equipment out so far for See Your Game.  The Pearl is almost twice as many as the solid.

My favorite ball and my go to ball is my Neptune but sometimes there is a little to much carry down or just overall oil for it to work, I have a NIB Illusion but from what ive seen/read that the Nomads are a little more lengthy and flippy reaction then the Illusion series, ive been looking at the Nomad Pearl for when the Neptune isnt enough, if I put the same layout, maybe with the CG a little more right, will i get a simular reaction out of the Nomad Pearl or just drill up my Illusion when compared to my Neptune?

here is the layout on my Neptune:

Thanks for your answers in advance

clt2244:

I see you are 550-600 RPM meaning you are higher than the highest guy on tour (Belmo), but I don't know your speed to know if you are matched up, slightly rev dominant or strongly rev dominant.  Not really enough info in your profile to help you out.

In general, the way you adjust high rev players is adding in balls with different diff values, not RG values.  The diff. in the Nomad is exactly TRIPLE the Neptune.  It will certainly come back, but you'll be standing in the next area code and they won't play off each other at all.  You need an Illusion or Grand Illusion (preferred) to bridge the gap.  That set up in diff. #'s would look like this:

Neptune         .018
Grand Illusion  .041
Nomad           .054

In this example, there is a logical step-up process to follow.  Then adjust with a balance hole, then the surface on the Grand to make it split the Neptune and Nomad for the shape you want on the lanes.

Also, if you have read the Nomad is longer and flippier, then you are getting BAD information.  That ball, with that much diff and flare starts FAST on the lane (more flare = earlier hook).

The reason it's a favorite here is how quickly it reads the pattern and then how assertively it makes a strong arcing move.  It's not flippy at all, although a weakly drilled one thrown through a puddle into dirt dry lanes could start to look that way.  Then again, if you see that pattern a CELL fits better there anyway.

crap, i didnt even notice that i put that there, i have a high rev rate but not that high, its closer to 500, not 600, sorry about that (must of hit the wrong number), thanks for catching that typo

i read your post and got quite a bit of info from it, i have a Grand Illusion drilled weaker than the Neptune but i find it being a little too touchy and being more of a condition ball, currently i have it polished but ive tried some different surfaces and just didnt work, i like it polished but its still touchy on certin conditions.

IMO, Robert Smith is still the highest rev player, but its more of a 1a, 1b on who has the most revs, they both could average 600 per shot if they wanted to.

Steve,

Would either Nomad fit between the GI and the Cell Pearl or are they closer to the Cell Pearl? Thank you
