Title: First night with Asylum
Post by: vkowalski1970 on January 10, 2014, 11:45:27 PM
Have to say I'm extremely pleased. As anyone who has seen my posts I had strayed away from Storm/Roto the last year and had been throwing some of the small companies. I was very pleased with the Seismic equipment and a few others but I did notice my carry % seemed to drop. So I decided to migrate back. Disturbed then Lights Out and now asylum and hyper cell. To early to say anything in hyper cell need to find a lot if oil.

I've been a huge fan of the Disturbed since I got it, changed surface and ball has been money. But I have to say, the Asylum may be even better. I threw it at OB and moved 3/3 right of where I've been starting with Disturbed at 500/1000/2000/3000. The asylum just was a bit cleaner, got down lane 2-3 feet further and still  turned over and came at the pocket like a Mack truck. It has the same Disturbed heavy roll but what looks like will be even more usable and versatile. I shot 697 getting there late and no practice and never throwing the ball on fresh before. Only threw a few frames on burnt ths. The ball was amazing, never over reacted and just kept coming all night. I made a few bad shots or it was 750 easy. I used it all night with only a 3 board move left with my feet. Never started early or looked like it was burning up. It is a great release.

Since I went back to Storm/Roto 8 league nights ago between 2 leagues I'm averaging 226. I usually average 208-210 and was down to 202 on my Friday night league. Climbing back up again finally.

40' and with that much tilt you get it way down the lane and others should know this.  How many milliliters?

Last I heard it was  23ml. But I'm not 100% sure.

The Asylum is going to be the best of the 3 new releases. It's the most versatile and THS usable.

I also used my Asylum for the first time last nite. I used it for the last game and shot 262 with it. I  really like the way this ball rolls and hits - and I am talking extremely hard. I also agree that this ball just may be my new go to ball , by being the most versatile and may replace my aging Rising Star. Roto has a winner with the Asylum!

I'd am guessing not that much difference maybe a few boards if both laid out same with OOB surface.  Watch Britton's comparison with TJ Trout in the back 1/2 of the vid. between the two what 2- 3 boards?

I am considering a weaker laid out Asylum or Wrecker to go above in strength my relatively strong laid out Rumble which I keep at T pad 4500 quite polished looking.  The Rumble is my house shot mainstay.

Both the Wrecker and Asylum are hybrid covers though the Middle Roll 70 core I believe is a harder hitting core and why the Disturbed/Deranged are such good balls in thew HP3 line. For me and my stats. in profile I'd believe that I can't layout a Wrecker or Asylum very strong....for me probably at minimum 5"+ pin to PAP over my fingers.  I don't have enough ball speed to get them down lane and I would have to take either ball to 4000 for use on medium length house shots.  This is just my take from what see on vids and knowing what others have experienced.

I have both. Drilled a bit different but both 4 inch pin to pap. I have taken disturbed surface up to 500/1000/2000/3000 vs the Asylum ob 500/3000 and I saw a 3/3 difference and it being a bit more versatile and get down lane a bit better. I bowl again tonight on a bit heavier ths. I will take disturbed to 500/2000 and compare

Interesting quote you made Rightycomplex! Especially now that a 900 series has been posted using this ball. Very clairvoyant.

What were the other two releases at this time?

I believe so... and you know, I can seeeee theeeee futureeeeeeee! nah, im just playing. Haha! That was just luck, but the ball is pretty special, especially if you have oil. It's a beast, just like its predecessors. The big thing with those balls is they dont flip so people migrate away from them. Cool, I'll be ordering both an Asylum and Disturbed in 14 to try them out. Had the disturbed in 15, Loved it, but didnt have any oil to play with. I'm loving the uproar until in practice yesterday it got caught in a gear and tore a chunk out of my ball in the track side...

Roto Grip is quietly, IMO, the best ball company on the market. Hands down from top to bottom. Hell even the Scream and Shout are beasts on drier patterns. I drilled my 14lb Shout to replace my 15, and threw like 20 out of 23 before I went home.

Great point! A lefty in my International league just recently went RotoGrip and just the past two weeks he has posted back-to-back sets of 801, and 750, including a 300 game! Roto Rules!!
