epic cracking
« on: November 19, 2006, 07:56:52 AM »
my epic developed a crack between my fingers a couple of weeks ago . I called roto and they said not to worry about it it was no big deal as long as it wasnt deep. Now the ball is breaking up around the ring finger hole. I kow this is only haPPENING BECAUSE I LIKE THIS BALL .None of my other balls are cracking .I guess i will call roto tomorrow and let them tell me this is ok too.

That is USUALLY caused by a lack of beveling on the finger holes.  But, that isn't the case every time.  I had an Apex Intensity that cracked, Ebonite replaced it and then that one cracked.  Still haven't purchased another ebonite.

I second Mark's comments here.  Bridge cracking is very common, and can be caused by a number of things.  In the 15 balls I have bought from Roto over the past 4 years I've only had 1 that had an issue - and that was promptly taken care of with a replacement sent to my doorstep.

I'd have your proshop guy look at it, and if it's just minor - he can plug it as Mark suggests.  A good plug job will get you a lot more time out of it, and if it's your favorite ball - probably the best way to go as that will stop the cracking.
