Roto Arsenal
« on: October 29, 2008, 02:31:35 AM »
I just purchased a cell pearl and I really like how it reacts. Really smooth but a hard arcing to it. Wondering how I can round out the rest of my tournement arsenal.
Original cell -heavy?
Cell pearl - Medium Heavy
Grand Illusion- Medium?
Neptune-light?
Any help would be appreciated. I bowl on everything from old wood lanes with no oil to new heavy flooded synthetics.
thanks

Here is the way I have my RG arsenal set up and it works great:

Cell- Heavy
Cell Pearl #1- Medium Heavy
Cell Pearl #2 (drilled weaker) Medium
Grand Illusion- Medium
Venus- Light
Golden Globe- spares

I would pick the Venus over the Neptune, much better ball for lighter conditions IMO. Also, I would drill your Grand Illusion strong. Keep in mind the Cell Pearl is a very strong pearl ball that can handle some oil.

Good luck with your arsenal..

I have 3 of the 4 you have mentioned. On most conditions the Pearl hooks about the same as the Cell just creats a different angle. If there is heavy oil or carry down the Pearl is not enough. I have 3 SD-73s that I use instead of a Grand Illusion for now. My new Neptune is drilled Rico and is as smooth as silk, won't overreact to changes in lane conditions, but will still get length and hit. It is great for drier, spotty lanes. It does need some head oil, no alot, but some otherwise I have to go to plastic.

thanks guys. That helps.
How does the cell pearl look if you knock the oob polish off?
Would I really need 2 cell pearls drilled differently?
thanks for the replies

My current arsenal:

Cell
Cell Pearl
Grand Illusion
Pluto
Golden Globe

I see absolutely no holes in my arsenal. I've bowled on some pretty nasty stuff lately and I seem to always have great ball reaction whether it be on the fresh or the dirt.

ringing 10, your tournament aresenal looks solid in my opinion. The one ball I recommend you try at some point is a Pluto. The ball is flat out good. Picks up a little sooner than the Neptune and gives you more of a controlled back-end motion. Works well on the flatter patterns.

Is the pluto stronger than advertised? I like what you said that it would be good for flatter patterns. Is the grand illusion weaker than the cell pearl?
thanks

The Pluto is quite a bit stronger than people think. It'll be a step up from the Neptune but substantially weaker than the Grand Illusion. If you're going to drill one, keep the layout a little stronger. 4 to 4 1/2 inch pin. Also, keep the surface on it. No need to polish it.

Grand Illusion and Cell Pearl are going to be two completely different motions. Although the Cell Pearl is fairly smooth for a pearlized ball, it is still not going to be as smooth as the Grand Illusion. The Grand Illusion is going to motion a lot sooner on the lane compared to the Cell Pearl. The Cell Pearl is going to be more overall hook.
