Bowling ball arsenal
« on: January 21, 2019, 07:04:57 PM »
Im looking to update my arsenal with a ball for medium and light oil. I just got a storm physix that i love and want to get some new balls to complement it. Ha e always liked storm and roto grip balls so i want to stay with the 2 companies.

Not sure I would call it a medium light oil ball, but I like the Idol Pearl.  It would be a good compliment to the Phisics

I got to see that Idol Pearl last week. I was really surprised! Guy was using it on mediums and medium heavy. Very impressive!

How light to medium oil we talking here?

We just need a lot more info here. Hand? Rough estimate on ball speed? Type of bowler? When does your physix become too much ball and on what conditions?

Basically, the physix is damn near at the top of the food chain when it comes to ball reactions. There isnít many balls that out hook it. Meaning thereís a lot of balls that arenít as big. You can range from the idol pearl down to plastic underneath it.

Me personally, depending on what your skill set, I donít think the idol pearl will offer a huge difference in boards covered. If youíre a more skilled bowler and have other balls, maybe the idol pearl will offer slightly less board coverage but different shape. But if youíre more worried about less hooking for lane transition, an idol pearl probably wouldnít be the best 2 ball combo for you to make.

IMO, you should probably be looking at the iq tour or hyroad

I usually throw in the 15-16 mph range, probably a tweener style has always been my guess. Im usually pretty versatile with different releases for different conditions. Physix usually becomes too much when im bowling with other people that have the pattern burned up by the time i am moving left to keep hitting the pocket. Or if there is just not much oil in the pattern to start with. Looking for 2 balls either complement the physix or to check down to when the physix is just too much ball.

Go with a pin down tour iq solid. Maybe 4-5. Pin to pap distance. It will be your benchmark ball that you can use on all medium conditions. Even some heavier, lighter volume conditions with surface adjustments. The low pin will make it slower off the spot, making it perfect for wet, dry house shots as well. Also a great piece for nationals if you participate in that. Itís the ultimate control ball. Other companies are starting to copy the iqís numbers, even the color, coming out with their version of the tour iq solid, but there is only one storm iq tour solid. IMO, one of the best balls of all time. Drill one now, you wonít be disappointed. For a dry lane ball my choice would be a pin down hustle ink, or even a tropical breeze. Along with your physics for heavy oil, you have a nice 3 ball storm, rg arsenal. Hope this helped. Good luck.

Thanks lefty. Redneck I have an idol pearl and it is much more condition specific than an iq tour. In your case you want a three ball arsenal, the iq tour is a better choice than idol pearl. Not saying idol pearl is bad, mine is a midlane beast, just saying the iq tour will be more versatile, and more of a benchmark ball, and a better compliment to your physics for medium oil.
