Cell and Cell Pearl
« on: February 11, 2009, 03:14:50 PM »
I know a couple of people that have these balls. They've told me the same things. The ball has lost it's hitting power only after a few months of use.Regular cleaning and all.And not a lot of use either. No tournaments or anything like that.Just a couple leagues a week.$400 buck+ is a lot to spend on equipment only to have it start to fade on me less than a yr later. That's why I'm reluctant to buy another ball. The last one I got was a Tropical Storm.I got it for drier conditions.Though I've used it on THS and I like it.So I'm considering another Storm ball.I'm just not prepared to spend over $200.Which seems to be the price of any high end ball by the time I get out of the pro shop with "free" drilling and inserts.

I don't know what people are telling you about these balls. I think this is people just making excuses when the ball isn't working right. I have over 200 games on each of my Original Cells and they are still going strong. As for the Cell Pearl it has almost 100 games and still dead on. I have given them hotwater baths and baked one of the Cells. So I don't know if that is the difference but the cytoplasm cover actually has the lowest absorbtion rate of any high performance ball. Trust me, they are safe to get. Just what ever you do don't put and early/strong drilling on the OOB original Cell unless you are seeing extreme heavy oil. Otherwise it will burn up in the oil and have nothing for the dry. As for the Cell Pearl, some people have some issues with it being jumpy so I would recommend putting a control drilling on it.

bowlingbear,

I have to agree with Locke. Plus the cover of the Cell has been designed to absorb less oil and to last longer. Many people don't easily recognize when the oil pattern changes due to the time of the year, temperature and humidity changes and when the house changes the oil pattern. Then there's the potential of lack of maintenance. I've seen greater changes in a ball because of of one or more of these factors than in the balls' actually losing performance.

Balls will lose performance, when used on high amounts of oil, and faster when people do not take care of them.

bowlingbear,
Don't believe what others say about the ball death! I have both and my Cell is about 7 months old and works as good as when it was new and the Cell Pearl still has the amazing backend. I clean mine after using and it's wiped off before I roll it each frame. Most bowler want to blame the ball, lanes, other people, etc..., but never themselves! Just adding to what Locke and Charlest posted earlier! Bruce

hey bowlingbear  i feel your pain i have both these balls as well. and now they are just expensive paperweights lol.they just dont seem to work like they did when they were new.i clean them both after each use and even had the regular cell rejunviated and still nothing. if you want to stick with roto-grip get yourself a grand illision. IMHO this is a much better ball than either of the cells. for me it even out hooks both the cells.

Guys,
I was wondering if either of you (bowlingbear, bestbudzs24) have had the balls resurfaced at all.  I understand one of you said you had them rejuvinated, all that does is pulls the oil out of the ball but does not give the ball new surface to create the friction needed.

Think of it like a tire.  When it is new, the tire is much more responsive because of the tread.  But after time, as the tire gets used and tread has somewhat gone away, the tire doesn't respond as well and you wouldn't want to drive these tires in a snowy condition (throw the ball in an oily condition)

My recommendation would be to take the ball to a reputable pro shop, let them COMPLETELY resurface the ball starting with a rejuvinator then taking the ball  and using a 500 abralon pad, then 1000 abralon, then 2000 abralon pad.  This will get the ball back to factory specs and you will be in love with your ball again. Let me know if you have any problems!!

Matt

No ball death on either ones. One resurface on each. In shop, we have the Ebonite version of the haus, and from diamond pads, to 180, 360, 500, 1000 and 2000, the ball reacts just like new. You can bleed all of the oil out, but can not compare to a full resurface, giving you new "surface" also.
