Nomad Solid - Pin up or down?
« on: March 01, 2011, 10:01:59 AM »
Looking to drill up a Nomad Solid. All of my balls are currently drilled pin up, but it seems that may people are drilling the Nomad pin down? What are you suggestions?

I had mine pin up and it was a great ball, Im sure pin down with the polished cover would still clear heads and be a monster

Your stats. and lane conditions to be used on will predicate how you lay it out and what surface to use it at.

I loved the pin down under bridge that I had with an OOB surface.  See my stats. in profile.  Shot an 800 with it but alas I dropped in weight.

Pin down with your favorite MB position and enjoy one of the best "do everything" balls ever made.

My Nomad Solid is drilled pin over bring.  It gets through the heads clean and has a very strong backend.  I'm able to play straight first game, and move in with it as the night goes on.  Even when the lanes get dry third game it doesn't want to roll out on me.  Best ball I've ever owned.

The Nomad, for me is a naturally flippy ball. I have mine at a regular label leveage layout. Pin, even with the ring finger and cg on centerline. The coverstock is a perfect compliment to it's nature and eventually smoothes everything out. With this drilling the ball was surpisingly stronger than expected.

If you are looking to use it on house shots, and for everyday use, I would opt for pin down. Not that you still wouldn't be able to use in tournys, as well.

If you want it for both tournys and regular use, I think pin up gives you a little more versatility, and a little more power on the backend as well, to turn the corner on heavier conditions.

I am actually planning to get another one, just so I can have the pin down option as well.

It's nice to have a ball with versatility, but I'm still questioning the layout. Evidently, drilling the Nomad pin up produces a monster on the backends. I guess my my only question at this point is how much I'd be losing in terms of 'flip' by drilling it pin down. I've been referring to this video review and still find myself in a pickle. Is this review pretty accurate?

I had mine pin up...60x4.5x50 and it was strong and versatile!!! It hanlded medium heavy oil well and would carry from any angle as I moved inside, as long as the heads werent totally burnt it was usable. One of the best, if not the best ball I have ever owned. Definitely the most underrated ball on the market!

I have had 2, all drilled pin down with the cg kicked out 45 degrees.

This ball hooks !!!  It gets down the lane pretty good, then goes left.  My first one seemed to get down the lane further before turning up, but the 2nd one has become too much to control.  My rev rate is 300, ball speed is about 17mph, tilt 13 degrees and Rotation around 60.

In case you are wondering, my first one got a bit tired and I wanted to replace it.  Unfortunately, can't find a condition that I could use it.
