Title: Hustle INK to play in dirt?
Post by: BeerLeague on October 12, 2018, 12:06:31 PM
It seems this year I am having issues battling over/under on a house condition.  I can take hand out of the ball and play the dirt but I would like to find a slower response, smooth shape that I can use in the drier areas of the lane and manage the over-reaction.

Currently, getting too deep puts me into 2-10 hell and moving right can be a crossover shot.  If you get in and keep it in, its 10 pins forever.  I have used a Hyper Cell Fused at 3000 abralon, a SONiQ at box shine and 4000,  and a Hyroad at 4000 ...... its all the same story.

I have heard good things about the INK ... is this a ball that is good in the dirt?

I don't have the hustle ink, but like you described when all else fails and I feel like playing down and in around the 5 board I use my Track Spare + at 3000. The polyester cover gives me the length I need and the asymmetric core gives me the punch I need on the backend.

I'll go the opposite way and say Truth Tour and bump the friction. That way, enough cover if you miss in, not too much overreaction if you miss left

All of those balls you list have some diff.........I'd probably go to something like my Hectic or Mojave with a taller core and lower diff if you're committing to go out where cacti grow.....

If you move in you're definitely going to want to have some shell and continuation.

Regardless, whether you decide to move in or play out away from the headpin make the commitment to it.

I know the type of pattern you're talking about, we had a pattern in one house I bowl a couple years ago that was like 44ft and the outsides were smoking dry but if you moved in they were juiced AND long.

Hey beer league! just saw this post, so I’m late to the party here but I feel your pain. I just drilled  a storm tour iq solid, pin down, under mid finger.  I’m a righty! 6 inch pin to pap 4 me. With 2 oz side weight, big cg kick no hole. Ball doesn’t flare, and with the oob strong cover it’s so smooth, doesn’t jump off the spot. The positive side weight makes it continue through the pins, not burn up in the dirt. I’m amazed how long this ball goes. Great piece for wet dry house shots or even tuff tournament conditions. You will need one with a pin out at least 4 inches to get the side weight with no hole. Give it a try, you won’t regret it. Ball is money with this drilling.

If you want a slow response, easy to control piece with good pop, pick up a Global X-2. One of the better balls for this condition that I'v seen.

Personally I use an AZO Gold Fantasy X for the dirt. This is a 3.5"pin ball, drilled stacked with a Mohole on the backside! No polish!

The nature of this ball is to go long, long, long but the Mohole gives it dynamic pop at the backend!

This was a ball made by Lanemasters!

After Dark solid is one of the best dry lane balls I have owned.  It will still over/under, but I have better luck squaring up against a smaller amount of residual oil.  This takes the 2-10 out of play.  Everyone I know who has tried the ball had had very good luck with it.  Really a great core shell match up

Take the surface down, sir.

I could, but I like the way it picks up a roll now,  and gives me some hold.  Over under only comes into play if I miss right, which I dont do very often.

Initially I knocked off the shine on my Hustle INK and it seemed good. Then I wanted it to go a little longer so I polished it back, but got lots of over /under.. Put the ball away and haven't really been using it. A couple of weeks ago I sanded the ball at 2000 an it was exactly what I was looking for. The ball rolled very smooth, did not ever react, and actually lasted me all 3 games.

Hustle Ink is too weak for me to use on fresh house shot with my style and since don't see a lot of transition I have it polished as my go to tournament ball right above urethane and below Hy-Road and IQ Tour.  Don't trust even low end pearl in that spot as don't want a piece jumping on back end and with polish it can handle blown heads late in a block.

Had an ink drilled pin up and hated it. Way to over under, harsh, fast off the spot. Plugged it, went pin down under mid finger big cg kick to the right prob leaving 1-2 ounce side weight no hole. Wow! Now I see what everyone is raving about with this ball. Huge difference, so smooth, slow off the spot. Great piece now for dry lanes. Still not the best for extreme wet, dry lanes but much better than it was with the high pin. I bet a wet abralon sand at 1000, or 2000 it would be great for wet dry house shots. I have it at 4000, wet sand abralon now, no polish. As doom says, 1500 grit polish is evil. Ball was useless before, so glad I plugged, redrilled it. Now I have a piece that fills a gap in my arsenal for dry lanes.

This is what works for me as a rev dominant senior with slowish ball speed 13.5 to 14 mph on Quibica back end (stats. in profile)

Pin under 4" x 60* Brunswick Rhino 14 lb. 2.54 .030 OOB (if need be I'd scuff it with a 4000 SIAair).  It's not over/under for myself on the multitude of various type wet/dry house walls to some blended.  What I like about the Rhino is it's cheap $75 undrilled and it's mid Rg other than the Hustle line which are way more total hook than the Rhino there are no mid Rg entry level balls they are all high Rg.

IMO I'd try to use a stronger/sanded ball and play right 'on top' of the wet/dry.  Going with something weaker and playing the dry is an option, but I don't think the Ink will do it.  That ball is A LOT of ball for that price point.
