I'm surprised that there is no Hybrid Cell or heck a hybrid at all in R/G's U.S. lineup.  Every hybrid that they have released I loved.(Apocalypse, Silver Streak SE, and the Saga)  I would like to see a hybrid cover wrapped around something!

if you would like to try a hybrid bowling ball from roto-grip then try a destiny.i just bought one off ebay two weeks ago and now its my only ball out of the bag.i have it drilled using the 4x4 drilling pattern set-up for moderate length and maximum backend.well let me tell you this little beauty will not disappoint you.my pro shop guy at first sight of it thought it was a cell.this ball is amazing.shot a 785 the second night on our summer league.i paid a paltry 60.00 for it and the ball is far worth more than that.if you can get one buy one.

Preaching mode on ...

The only use I see for a hybrid coverstock is it's pretty. Are you a bowler or an interior decorator?

If you want a certain reaction, you buy a ball that gives you that reaction FOR YOUR RELEASE, FOR YOUR OIL PATTERN, FOR YOUR LANE SURFACE. You do not buy a certain type of coverstock or a certain type of core or a core with XXX specs. That guarantees nothing in this day of modern coverstocks and very sophistcated cores.

This is not a theory. This is a fact.

A ball like the Cell, especially the Cell, is capable of a huge variety of potential reactions. You do not need a coverstock  that's half pearl and half solid. With the asymmetry of the Cell's core, with its large RG differential, and with its very maneuverable coverstock, it is capable of so much beyond being "just" an oiler.

Since I can't use the Cell's stock surface in any league around me, once I finished testing it, I started to manipulate the surface, WITHOUT changing the drill at all. I was astounded. With just 2 polishes and one sanding, I three COMPLETELY different reaction, one was even a virtual skid/flip reaction on a medium-light oil pattern.

This is the first ball I have seen in the past 15 years that you can,  in practice, IN REALITY, between drillings, and coverstock manipulations, cover every oil pattern, every oil amount, every lane surface from medium-light to true heavy oil.

I suggest you stop looking for something that may never exist and use what's there right now to get what you need, not what you want.

Preaching mode off.

I actually used my Cell today at the box finish on an absolutely beat-up second shift shot on wood lanes.  Tons of friction up front, quite a bit of carrydown meant pearl equipment got kinda squirty, but that Cell is SO continuous I was able to just keep moving my feet left and it never quit driving.  What a fantastic ball.  charlest, you hit the nail on the head when you said that it's versatile, and that's not even with surface changes!

I agree, the Cell is one of those balls that if you can adjust, or if you like adjusting the ball you can make it work on almost anything.  I'm pretty adept at changing speeds, so for me I can make it work on the dryer side of medium where a pearl might be a bit touchy at the breakpoint.  And I can use it on a heavy shot if I slow it down.  You can do that with a lot of balls on the market, but this is the only one I've found that acts the same at the breakpoint no matter the condition.

I am having trouble understanding this, too.

According to the numbers (and the advertising hype) on the roto grip site the only different is the color!
