I'm wanting an IQ Tour type reaction for shorter sport shots. The IQ Tour is just so expensive now. I was told the Hyped Solid would give a pretty similar look. Luke's video shows this pretty well. Anyone else throw both on some harder shots? Is the IQ Tour really that special (and worth the cost) since it's been around forever, or is the Hyped Solid just as good at a cheaper price point?

Hyped Solid is really good and gets used a lot in our tournaments. Strength wise they're pretty close, just slightly different shape/roll.
Hyped core is chuggier/heavier rolling in our experience and the cover on the Hyped Solid offers a lot of performance, especially with some surface

Look at a Hustle Camo. Luke also really likes this ball and if you are talking about shorter patterns; I feel it could be a better match up than even the Hyped Solid. Go to his page and watch the video on the Hustle Camo. Plus, it is about $20.00 cheaper than the Hyped.

Thanks for the tip. Getting a Camo Hustle drilled up in a few days. I might still pick up a Hyped solid as well since I don't have any light oil options. Polished Camo and the Hyped at 2-3000 might be a good 1/2 combo on short patterns.

Hyped is very good but only drilled a few. Guy I bowl with on Wednesdays swears by his Hustle Camo and it has been very good to him. Can't beat it for the price either. Luis Napoles, another Youtuber SPI staffer who is friends with Luke also loves the Camo. He has a few videos on the Camo as well, including one with a surface change.

It was mostly Luke and Luis videos that sold it for me. Between Luke's sport shot video then the comparisons between the Camo and the Hyped and Luis's video showing the Camo polished and scuffed it looked like a winner.

Got to throw the Camo today. Pretty similar to my trusty Tsunami H2O - maybe a little earlier and a little rollier. Around the track wasn't my best look; in a touch wouldn't hold and out was lazy to recover. Further in was actually not bad as long as I kept my speed soft. I wasn't expecting outside to be in play on a Saturday, but they had oiled in the morning. As long as I kept my speed a little firm and my hand soft it looked really good. I think it will be exactly what I want on short sport shots. If I get the Hyped solid as well, I will leavy this shiny and keep a little surface on the Hyped.

Sounds like the same issue my teammate has. He ball speed is slow so if he squares up, the cover is too strong and struggles to keep it right of the head pin. But if he moves in and swings the ball, the diffs in the cores are low and therefore ball doesnt want to finish with any kind of authority. This was with a Night Road. So I suggested a Hustle for him as well and now he is able to play in his comfort zone and hit the pocket with more regularity. Appreciate the update and let us know how it goes on the shorter patterns.

I've never thrown anything with the REX cover, but the 15# ball has a differential of 0.046 so I would have thought it would have been fine moving in for him.

Issue is that my teammate throws 14 and the diff in 14 is only .037. Not sure what it is about that core. But the diff changes drastically from 16 to 15 and down to 14 (.058, .046, .037).

The diff changes so greatly because there is no wrap around the core, its all cover/core like the old days.

As mentioned above by 3835, there's no filler used with the HyRoads.
I personally don't matchup with the HyRoad core (Inverted Fe2) for whatever reason. I wish they'd bring back the Rocket core (Booster) or Victory Road/Cross Road core (Inverted Fe3) as I matched up with those balls better

I'm hoping they're going to put out a short sport shot this Tuesday so I can see how it works on that since that will be it's intended usage.

You may want to consider taking it down to 2000 just to help blend the shot out better. Even with no polish 4000 is still pretty smooth. I think the higher RG is what is getting you. So probably need to adjust the cover to compensate.

To add in another option, you could use Storm Reacta Scuff or Motivs Power Gel Scuff by hand on it. For me, it seems to be in the 3000 range. It's what I like to use to knock lane shine off with on the covers I keep dull

I did change the surface to 3000 grit abralon for my PBA50 regional. Looked great in the practice session, but didn't look good for the tournament so I never used it. Maybe next time - last time I bought a Hammer Purple Urethane and didn't use it, but did use it a lot for this one.
