Title: Hyper Cell Fused - Any one else having trouble?
Post by: lefty50 on September 15, 2018, 11:48:38 AM
I have struggled with my Hyper Cell Fused ever since day 1. I tried it in practice this week. Still no joy, in 2 different houses. My partner pulled his HCF out and was having great success. When I mentioned I couldn't get comfortable with mine anywhere, he confirmed that this was the first time he found a condition it worked on...

Before putting it on Ebay, I wonder... Anyone else love or hate their HCF?
Thanks in advance

Strong asyms in general tend to be condition specific and hit or miss. That is how it is with my black widows too.  Have you matched up with other asyms?  Whole lot of posters on here including me tend to prefer symmetrical cores.

Higher intermediate diff asymms have been hit or miss for me as well. I had a lot of success with the Rogue Cell but I hated the HC Skid. With that experience I figured I can't go with a longer pin-pap and pin up (shorter Val angle) on the stronger asymm cores

On top of that when I've bought an asymmetric ball recently I've gone with ones that had lower int. Diff in the 008-013 range

I like mine but it needs oil.  I took the shine off with a 3000 pad and it’s money.  But again, it tends to get use on sport patterns and house patterns with some volume in the middle.

Agreed on all, and thanks for the input. I have always preferred symmetrical cores also, but have had good luck with a Sure Lock, so thought... Maybe. Wrong I guess. Worried about what I'm reading re: fewer sym cores in the future due to new rules, but that's for a different thread...
Oh well, at least I'm not alone.

I just used mine at the Orleans in Vegas Friday and Saturday.

On the Orleans Re-oil (still quite heavy) at 3PM Friday, it was fine in practice and when the lights went on for tournament play,  I slowly lost the drive and continuation I needed to carry the 4/7/5 pins. Earlier in the morning I gave it a test run and took the shine off with a 1K pad. With 8 on the pair, 4 being way better than me with Halo's and Idols, I rolled a 139. Finished off with the Hot Cell in game 2 and 3 and won some money. My scores went way up and their score dropped like a rock.

Saturday on The Orleans fresh, really heavy volume, same thing in which practice was fine, and the same thing happened in Game 1. I just had to roll it really good to get the drive I needed to carry the same pins 4/7/5. Halfway through game 2 the ball was better and easier to use; but still had to roll it really good and by Game 3 it was the right ball. But this time I wasn't bowling with power players, just regular Vegas league bowlers. The Hot Cell was out of the question all 3 games.

At my home center it works great on our house shot and short sport patterns.

In hindsight I wish I had the Halo / Idol / Surelock or one of them; really needed a stronger solid cover for game 1 and then transition to the Fused or Hot Cell depending on who I'm bowling with and what there using. I could of burned off the carry down and not worry about speed with a Halo or something in game 1, then change balls. The large cores worked well for me at the Orleans. Maybe a Code X? But I really needed that hook set roll to carry there.

But I really like my HCF and when the back ends cleaned up it was perfect. I got a really look at the gear I brought including the Fused and Hot Cell, Primal Remix was a dud and went too long. But no 10 pins, washouts, or anything stupid with the Fused and when it hit it was guaranteed carry.

I'll put the polish back on Monday and plan for something even stronger.

Get you an Idol.  That ball is something special and well priced as well.  Just seems like a great symmetric ball that can handle the flood and is probably less condition specific and more forgiving.

See, that's the difference for me. I don't do well with Asyms (except for a Sure Lock which is working great right now) and since I will be all year as a house bowler at these two fine establishments, the HCF just doesn't fit the bag. I got an Idol, admittedly used off Ebay, to be a replacement for my Phase II, which is getting old and is a high maintenance cover, but the Idol, although interesting, is less overall than I thought it would be. Although I don't usually like Asyms, I need to put this drill on another asym and see if I've found something or if it's just that the SL is that good....

I put a layout I typically don't use on it, like an idiot and mine is pretty skid flip...coupled with a midlane friendly core...just doesn't match up well for me. I'll find a condition for it one day 😎

My driller and I went out on the lanes about a month ago to just do a PAP check again and I really think I dialed in my asym layout.  Going forward I think all asym's I drill will use the exact same layout.  Not sure if that's entirely why I like mine so much.

I loved the Eternal Cell so I think it's just a good core matchup for me....

My first set with it, out of the box, the ball was WAY too sideways and hard to control.  I was ready to sell it.

I took the surface to 3000 and it has become the first ball out of the bag on THS.  It is amazing the difference surface made.

It's on my spec sheet record at the shop.  I don't remember entirely, I believe it was a 3.5" pin to pap or so....if I remember I'll find out Wednesday.

Jim, the answer is wet paper towel, if it ever gets to the pocket. It just doesn't. It's lazy and a half. I've tried getting into it, talking to it, waving my hands, pointing right, everything   :). That #$%^ ball is not paying attention. it's beyond mellow.

Sounds like my More Cash.  Took putting Turtle Wax on that ball to get it to move and hit but way stronger than the HCF.

I honestly love my HCF. Smooth strong predictable reaction. Tells me clearly when it is and when it is NOT the right ball. I have noticed for me, the surface prep is overly CRITICAL with this ball. Alot of equipment I just use and use and dont clean or touch it up. This one needs it and if I miss on the grit by a little, it tells me that too. I can see why you may not love it....but I can imagine a small tweak making a huge difference. That's how it played out for me.

I absolutely love my H/C Fused. Imo this ball has been the most consistent rolling/hitting and carrying ball I have bought in a while. It has netted me 2 - 300's so far. I think it boils down to matching up. With this ball I match up well!

Yes, it's probably about matching up, that's true. I've got a senior tournament today, and for my pearl spot in the bag, I'm going to an old Vandal. There's just no confidence in the HCF.
