Title: Idol Pro...
Post by: AlonzoHarris on June 25, 2019, 02:36:51 PM
Just calling out what's on everyones minds. Do I need the Idol Pro if I have a insert "Phaze 2, Idol, Code X", or how does this compare to the Storm Pro Motion??

Obviously all speculation...but lets discuss this?..

I like the ocean blue color and simplicity of the design. Halo Vision actually received the cover eTrax-H19 that I thought was going to be on the next Idol ball. Schlem states it's pure resin, no nano added. Dare Devil Trick cover? Hmm.

I do think the Storm Pro Motion and the Idol Pro will act as bigger brothers to the IQ Tour.

I don't quite understand their choice for the Idol Pro. To me it looks like a stronger Idol and their website also shows the Idol Pro being inside of the Idol.

With the success of the Phase II and Idol, why bring both of these releases now? I like the look of the Halo Vision

They have the Pro lower in hook potential than the original or the pearl. I'm seeing the ball line chart having the Pro weaker than the original too, where are you looking?

It’s essentially a non particle Idol.

Ah just saw I read the chart wrong. So EtraxS19 vs. MicrotraxS18.

A little longer and a little more backend. So an Idol after it lane shines?

I think that's what the sheen OOB surface kind of emulates. Will be interesting to see what the Idol ends up looking like without the nano additive. Not sure it's going to be the "Pro" motion most would think of... that's basically the original.

Right. I think Storm/Roto missed the boat on it. "Pro" seems to get people thinking like "Tour" at least here in the US.

Don't get me wrong, it could end up being a great ball and I love the color choice. It doesn't really stand out to me like the Halo Vision or even the MVP

Given the success of the Idol and Idol Pearl I think the Idol Pro is a fairly safe bet, but who knows. Seems like it could be a true fit between the first two iterations although I'm not sure there's much of a need in that range. With the Idol Pearl settling down into a Marvel Pearl-esque shape and the original already being round there's not a huge gap.

Maybe the eTrax-S19 surprises us and ends up being significantly different than the 2018 formulations. Either way, I'm intrigued since I don't personally have and Idol or Idol Pearl so that small/no gap between the first two doesn't affect me much.

From my viewpoint the Phaze 2 has typical been that strong symm solid that has a hit more length and backend than the Idol solid. So I feel like these will be quite close. With the love for the Phaze 2 from the Pro’s, maybe that’s where the idea behind Idol Pro sparked? Who knows, but I doubt someone would want to carry the Idol, Idol Pro, & Phaze 2 in the same setup. IQ Tour remains a step down in my eyes.

Looking back, doesn’t look like we’ve seen the eTrax-S18/19, only microTrax-S18. All other e-Trax have been Hybrid or pearl.

I’ve wanted to test the Idol core, so I may try this one. OG Idol is too much cover for me, and I didn’t fair well with the Halo Pearl, so I’m ruling out e-Trax-P18 on the Idol Pearl. Maybe it’ll unseat my Phaze 2 from the bag.

Ugly ass ball but interesting on paper for sure.  A more versatile Idol is sweet sounding.

Ding ding ding...

Plus the rocketship surface.  Probably slots it perfectly between the of idol and pearl.

Plus this might be something the "pro's" were doing to their idols.  Hence idol pro...

The marketing is misleading in my opinion.  Take the Hustle Ink, add an arrow's worth of hook and that's the Idol Pro.  Much more shape than the Idol, even if you took the Idol and mirror shined it, still not the Idol Pro.  Covers are a lot different.  The Pro maybe even shapes more than the Idol Pearl.  Not as clean and long, but it's pretty nutso on the backend.  This is the definition of a league shot killer, still usable on tougher stuff, actually looks pretty good as like a 2 or 3 ball depending on volume and length, but the reaction out of this ball is really visually impressive and attractive.  It's in Venom Shock and GB3 territory, it's going to be a monster on 95% of what most of us see on a daily basis.  Super super heckin excitement for this one.

Where does it slot? Above or below the OG Idol?

I have trouble understanding why anyone could think that a pure reactive cover that's cleaner to begin with could actually outhook the Idol . . but I guess that's what they show on the website . . there's more visual hook up to medium heavy volume because of the super strong friction response.  Once you get up around 27-28 ml and 42'+ you'll see the Idol overtake it because the nano in the Idol cover has more traction.  So 95% of people are going to swear it hooks more because it has more backend . . but the Idol is still technically stronger, but just by a couple boards at most.  If you took the Pro to 2000, you might not see an appreciable difference though.

Website is totally screwed up. Idol OG and Idol Pearl are showing exactly the same reaction  :D
