Title: If you could do it again...
Post by: Lower_Level on April 06, 2010, 09:35:06 AM
....what would your ideal Roto 4 ball arsenal be out of the current arsenal?

I'm planning on some major overhauls to my game this summer; working with a new coach & am thinking of going with a whole new line-up; or at least some new layouts for my current equipment.  Right now I'm throwing around 17 mph, with low-med revs (still working through an injured wrist)  My biggest problem is getting the ball to come back to pocket when there's carrydown & the lanes are in transition.  Most of this is inability to make correct adjustments; but some I think may be not having the right ball available.

My current balls are:

Rogue Cell (pin under ring, CG kicked out about 1")
Mutant Cell (pin in ring, CG stacked)
Rogue Cell (pin beside ring, CG stacked)
Storm Reign (pin in ring, CG stacked)

There's some obvious holes/overlap that need to be addressed, I know that.  So I'm looking for advise on what would be an ideal line-up to try to cover most of the bases.  Any advise is always welcomed!

Mutant drilled strong
Rogue drilled to snap
Nomad Pearl drilled strong but predictable
Dark Star drilled like the Nomad

That is what I would go for. I think that would cover things well for just about anything but the driest.

I never matched up well with the Cell line but I love Roto Grip

right now Im using
Nomad Pearl - pin up over bridge CG kicked 45 deg no weight hole

Dark Star - drilled exactly the same as the Nomad Pearl

Mars- pin slighly above ring CG stacked no weight hole

Oracle - drilled Rico (this is the least amount of jump off the dry for me but hooks more than the Dark Star and Mars over all)

I really like this lineup a lot
if I had to change I would maybe take away the oracle and add a silver streak SE drilled Rico or even a Neptune drilled Rico
(I use an original purple rhino pro for when the shot really starts to dry out and go away)

If you dont like the Cell line then, the nomad solid would be a decent oil ball with lots of surface

Only throw the good stuff, Roto/Global.

my nomad pearl works very well for me in heavy oil
I have a lot of revs and a lot of mph
I can use the nomad on a heavy volume shark pattern just fine usually average around 215-220 on shark with it
I normally just knock the polish off of it if Im hitting really heavy volume

Well, mine might not be yours, but I really only regularly throw 4 balls right now-

Rogue Cell oin above ring, small hole down

Nomad solid pin above/right of ring, small hole down

Cell Pearl pin above bridge

Dark Star pin under thumb... No, not a typo.

mutant cell 5x3 (have)
cell pearl stacked (short pin and have)
nomad solid pin above and between fingers (wish i had)
nomad pearl rico (also have)
that should cover it

Thanks for the responses: and please keep the suggestions coming!

I'm thinking that I'm gonna keep my mutant, my pin-under rogue and the reign drilled as they are.  But I want something that would fall between the weak drilled mutant and the reign.  Thinking of either nomad (solid or pearl) and am wondering what layout would put the ball in the void?

Suggestions?

I found my Mutant and Cell (original) cells to be almost the same...so I offed the Mutant but here is my RotoGrip line up.

Cell (solid) pin over bridge MB swung 35*
Cell Pearl pin over bridge, MB swung 35*
RS-P pin at 4 below ring MB out 45*
Silver Streak SE pin above bridge MB out 45*
Sonic X (pearl) pin over bridge CG stacked

Truth be told I don't really find much use for my Cell solid.  There isn't many condition that my Silver Streak and RS-P can't handle.  I'll throw the Cell Pearl when I want to change it up or be really clean through the fronts.  I like the arsenal even though it's from equipment well past it's prime.

A 60x4x70 Riot, pin down.
A Mutant Cell 30x4x60 with pin down
A Rogue 4x4 pin up with a delayed reaction
A Dark Star 5x3 with pin up 1 inch

Best of luck...
