Title: Ikon weight block
Post by: AlonzoHarris on April 26, 2018, 12:25:42 PM
I'm curious to see a weaker cover on that Ikon weight block. I can't really make proper use of Nano in my local houses, but the overall vibe I'm getting from it makes me think something similar to my Phaze II and Marvel Pearl.

Also - Helios Core(Mystic, Horizon, Horizon Solid) and the Ikon Core (Idol..so far)..mhmm

Yeah Alonzo! I saw your comment.

Are there similarities between the Ikon core and the Helios? if so, I'm buying a case of Idols tomorrow!

Interested so see if anyone agrees with this. Would love to see Roto make a strong covered pearl Idol as the Haywire never got a sibling with such traits. Idol is hard to beat.

The Idol might go down as the best ball RG has ever made.  Will definitely be pearl and hybrid versions.  I'm really hoping Idol Pearl is like a strong Marvel Pearl, same Idol motion but more usable lol.  Also, put some polish on the Idol or let it lane shine and it gets a lot more usable.

How different is this more than the DD core? The bottom portion seems to look the same....

I'm one of the only people on the planet who dislike the:

Disturbed/haywire/DD trick =all three literally roll the exact same for me, not good...but I see others destroy with em, I know theyre good balls.

Is the ikon similar or different? Or both?

My teammate just drilled an Idol alongside a fresh Haywire. His Idol is way more continuous and doesn't become too slow to the point of not making the corner. I'd like to say your favorite layout should be the way to go, but I'm assuming you did that with the other three. Perhaps you should go over your bridge if you drilled this one? (If I recall, your go-to is pin above the ring)

It's quite a bit different, differential is much higher, plus the Nano cover is super continuous, so I don't have it much like my DD Trick at all.  Trick gets to the spot and eases in, Idol is still smooth but just keeps climbing.

Since the Nano cover is so dominant in ball motion, what differences do you see between the Idol vs. the Hyroad Nano. Not a huge difference in differential so the main difference is in the RG but the Nano cover is so predominant I'm wondering how you see it.

Good to hear. I as well did not like the Haywire.

Good question - I'm interested in hearing some real world feedback on this as well.

Well, even though not winning I got to see Pete Weber throwing the two of them on the difficult PBA50 National Championship on Xtra Frame!

This condition looked like a very wet reverse block.  This human repeating machine was throwing each.  The Hyroad Nano and the Idol.  I am almost certain that the drillings were the same pin under and slightly out from his ring finger and the cg out and a smallish weighthole out and near level with the thumb.  I could be corrected on the pin position on the Idol(maybe pin up...I had trouble seeing that one clearly!)

These balls were played near each other around the 4th arrow.  Both looked dull compared to others I have seen out and about on the shelves.  They looked great in PDWs hands.  Every game I saw looked like a 300 that somehow didn't quite happen.

Both with this dull setup squared up earlier that other balls and gave the pocket a massive thump that surprised me on the few that didn't carry!  The Nano looked like it was played just slightly to the right of the 4th arrow and the Idol was played in the 22 to 23 range at the arrows.  Both not getting as wide as the slippery outsides starting near 11.

The more rounded Nano.  The slightly more angular Idol which also seems to create increasing angle at the pocket.  It was a thing of beauty to watch him easily smash the pocket ball after ball.  How he made this tough tough shot look so easy was
amazing.

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS others were using these balls but without the same effect or line.  The difference was PDWs easy absolutely consistent loft!  It looked like he was 5 to 5 1/2 feet with the Idol as he wanted and closer to 4 feet with the Nano Hyroad.  It seemed His softer speed for this shot(than normal) along with his loft allowed these duller than box balls to really square up right at the right point on these still quite wet insides!  And yet retain energy.  Whatever happened after I stopped watching and how he didn't win this tourney by 300 pins...I will not be able to understand as his matchup was so perfect.  Others who made the finals did not have this look!

For many I believe these two balls will be very cover heavy, the Idol even more so

I watched some of Pete throwing that Idol there as well and it looked really good for him.

Like I made mention of before, in excited to see how they develop the HP3 line with this core. The DareDevil core was slightly too low of diff and gave a too smooth or hook set reaction for my liking, in my opinion.

This! Ugh...I hate my DDT..

But I really got it from the disturbed/deranged/haywire balls too...

I just punched up an Idol and have the same drilling on it that I have on the DDT.  I've only got 4 games on the Idol, but on flatter conditions (not house) at oob when compared to a 1000-grit DDT, the Idol seems to have a bit more punch.  I have yet to throw them on the same lane to get a real read on the differences.  I'm bowling on a modified house shot this weekend and should be able to do a real world comparison.

Luke,

You say we will be getting the pearl version of the Ikon? Do you think it will be with the particles or not? To me this is where RG is missing the boat... I still have a Defiant Sould and Edge. The Edge was the pearlized version of the original Defiant, particle and all. Love this ball. Have seen them in the past(NoRules, NoRules pearl) where the pearl did not have the micro DNA/Particle. Here is keeping my fingers crossed... ;)

Yeah I'm hoping it's a Nano Pearl . .

Honestly, I don't think Storm has had anything close to this idea since the Prodigy. I guess arguably the Ohaze, but i'm not counting it.
