Sell me on the Cell
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:31:09 PM »
I am going to buy a bowling ball in the next couple days.  I am looking for something strong and for heavy oil.  I am a high speed, high revs bowler. I have never thrown a rotogrip ball.   I have read a lot of good things about the Cell, please, tell me why I should get this ball.

For every reason you just named. Because you are a high speed/high rev player looking for some earlier motion on slicker/longer patterns.

If you want to equate the Cell to a past reaction, think the Ultimate Inferno with slightly more contuation. Drill it according to your rev rate for flare potential and have at it

Everyone knows what a good, versatile ball the Ultimate was. This ball is right there with some of the best ones for performance and versatility.

The Cell is a good ball, but being a Roto perosn (I currently have 8
different Roto Balls), the Quest or a Epic Battle (if you can find a new
one), might be better. I believe no ball on the market hooks on heavy oil. You
still must find or create friction. Thats where the particle in the two I
mentioned helps. The Cell can handle heavier amounts of oil, it is versatile,
and the cover can be adjusted, and its a great price point. But if your turned
on by the recent success of the Cell (TV, etc), dont look past some of the
other Roto pieces.

Please don't buy one. Don't even waste your time. This way if I ever meet you in a tournament where there's a heavier pattern I belive I will have a great advantage.

This is the first ball in a long time that I felt I could have a distinct advantage over someone that does not have one so please.

NO ONE ELSE PURCHASE THIS BALL!!!!!!!

Bowlingball.com has the Battle for 99.99, This and the Cell make a great 1-2 Punch for Oil. I have had great success using these 2 balls over the last couple of weeks. I still would recommend the Cell to anyone. It is a great ball!!!Cannot be beat!!!!!!!

i have a battle and an odyssey,2 in fact. I had to take my cell down to 400 ,but it really was like putting rubber on ice skates it made the world of difference. I have an odyssey at the same furface as the cell and before i sanded the cell down it wouldnt touch the odyssey. I used it at the new surface and it was easily 5-7 boards stronger than the odyssey. Shots i threw with the cell i hit the 2 pin same shot with the odyssey was 1 3. I used the cell to make a line for the odyssey,it was just that strong. The line i was playing was out of bounds for anyone else and i was going brook. I am a slow speed low rev player if i only had some speed.

Below is a posting from the MWPBA forum by a friend who has been pretty critical of Roto Balls in the past.  I let him throw mine and here's what he had to say about the question "how do you compare the CELL to a current Storm ball....

I dont think the Cell can be compared to any Storm ball I have ever thrown. From talking with Nelson and then throwing one myself,,, you dont want to be in too deep and throwing this too far away from ya.... this ball will be F$%%#$NG awesome on the fresh playing up the boards! I only threw it on china, but even at 20 it didnt ever look like it wanted to bucket,, continued rolling and the hit was still good considering the ridiculous puddle it was going through........ I will let you know much better in 3 weeks after I am done with team event, this will be my practice/first game ball for sure! Then probably back to either one of my Specials or T road solid!

p.s. with this ball, for 15-20 feet it acted just like a brunswick ball.... wouldnt squirt to the right (and I was trying) but the characteristics of the brunswick quickly diminish because it actually would hook on the back.
