Got impatient and ordered a ball from the internet because the local distributor was out. They sent this and say it is 1st quality, so they won't take it back. I say it's a pro CG and limits my drilling option. I can't do a 5X3 because of the Mass Bias placement. I think this is one of the balls that were mislabled from the factory.
What do you think? Pro CG or 1st Quality?

where did you buy it that they wont take it back? If it was not 1st quality but advertised as so, they owe you a refund. Put a stop payment on it!

First quality. It doesn't look like it's out more than 1 1/2".
As a righty, this ball will be OK for your use. You can still use the 5x3 layout, since you are referencing the PAP and the MB, and not the shifted CG, when laying out the ball. Actually, with the CG shifted left, you may not even need a weight hole to make the ball statically legal.

Pro CG. Does the box state anything about the ball being a blem? If not, contact RG and tell them about the ball and how the box wasn't labeled. Maybe it just slipped through their quality control.
Maybe email Roger Noordhoek at RG here.> RogerN@rotogrip.com

What's the Top Weight?
You might be able to pull this off with the right TW.

To answer your question, it's a Pro Cg ball. Who's fault it is for not being labeled correctly? That's not an easy question to answer.

Why is this a Pro-CG ball?!
Most manufacturer's allow for the CG to be out of line by up to 1" or 1-1/2". If the MB is in the lower rght portion of the picture, then the CG is left of the line through the pin/MB. For a righty, he should still be able to do 5x3 with the desired reaction, and no x-hole needed.

If I remember right, didn't Roger post somewhere that some Cell's did make it out of Utah in the wrong box, they should have had Pro CG or Pro Pin marked, but didn't, and thus, the ones that should have been makred that way were recalled?

Depending on the TW, you can punch this ball with the Cg near the palm, placing the pin and mass bias in a stacked position. A fourth hole, located just about anywhere depending on a desired reaction shape, can be placed after the ball has the fingers punched out. Check for static balances after she's punched out before drilling a fourth hole and make your determination of hole placement and size accordingly.

Dan look at the pic again, it is almost 90 degrees from the pin cg line, way more than 1.5" off center more like 5".
No way can I lay out the ball 5X3 with a 2" buffer, it would put the cg more than 1.5" off the midline and in the negative side. Sorry can't take out negative side weight unless you want the ball to track over the weight hole? Top is 2.6, I tried to lay it out and it's not going to work.
I know how to layout a ball and drill, don't need any help there just asking if it is a Pro CG or Not?
I have contacted Roger from Rotogrip, hope he can help me.
Thanks

With the CG off line, it just makes some drillings much more difficult or impossible because of statics, yes CG for the most part does not matter.
Because of the predictible nature of the cell, I'm looking at putting a length drilling on it 5X3, 2' pin buffer, it should finish better on the back end and still be predictable at the break point. Basically a carry down ball, ie when the heads are hooking and when you go inside the ball won't finish.
That is the one layout that I do not have right now and the condition that has my number, thats the reason for looking at the 5x3 drilling.

The photo shows the cg close to, if not exceeding, two inches off line.

sorry about that...didn't realize you were married to the 5x3 drilling. I thought it might turn out to around 4x4.5 for you. Not at all like the 5x3 you'd planned on. I received one with the cg about five inches right of where your is located.

I would have someone spin the ball to determine where the MB is. My ball had the same issue and I found out the MB was mismarked. It was about 2 1/2" off and I was able to use a normal layout.

A ball is considered a pro cg if the cg is more than 2 1/2 inch off the alignment. For a righty a ball with the cg left of the alignment is actually good because if you swing the mb right of your thumb you do not need to drill a weight hole to make the ball legal. I have one similar to yours and have been averaging 250s the last 2 weeks in league. Great ball.

Mine is similar with the CG about halfway between the pin and the rg, it's offline about 2-1/2". Mine is setup 4-1/2 x 5"rg, with the cg being about 1" left of the center of grip. The middle finger was drilled deeper, and there is a bit of negative side weight on the ball. It doesn't seem to affect the roll though, still a very strong ball with a strong move and good continuation.
You have to remember that CG and side weight doesn't matter much on these strong MB balls. You could probably get close to 5x3 and still stay legal.

That is a pro cg no doubt. It is not a very drastic one though. You should be able to go with your planned lay out. You should just be able to do it and not have to have a weight hole. That is a great set up. You could also do some fun things with a high pin placement. I have a pro CG that I did that with. It is the perfect ball on a house shot.
