Looking for Ball
« on: March 12, 2009, 02:46:58 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm looking at purchasing a new Roto ball, and I need some advise.  I'm looking for something that I can punch up that's going to be a good benchmark ball that fits under a Cell and Cell Pearl.  I've also been flirting with the idea of drilling it Rico, since I usually have more success with balls that are more even arcing and rolly than skid flip.

My question is what ball do you guys recommend?  I feel like I have the heavy oil and light oil (really the only conditions I bowl on, I throw old Rhino Pros on light oil), but I'm missing something good in between.

Thanks in advance!

I would say Grand Illusion, but if you see the lighter side of things maybe a Pluto is the ideal benchmark.

You might even consider the new Mars that's coming out.

Easy choice...Grand Illusion and if you want even arcing, go below the fingers.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm not looking for anything for really lighter conditions (I have a slew of mid 90's balls that have me covered there), just something that is under my Cell.  Sounds like I'll have to pick up a Grand Illusion!

Grand Illusion or Mars... I was hoping to see Britton do a comparison of those two, but he did it with a Pluto instead

Pluto. Even rolling while keeping its strong move. Very good carry, and very good predictable. Also very cheap :-)

Sorry SV...I can tell you what i see the difference being tho...

The GI can handle more oil and is very smooth and even off the dry...this ball is GREAT when you want control...The mars does make a more assertive move off the dry boards, but it needs more friction to get it kick started...they compliment each other nicely

ON EDIT: TO the original poster...the Grand Illusion is definetly the piece you are looking for!
