Looking for a New Ball
« on: November 01, 2013, 08:54:51 AM »
I have the Defiant Soul and the Wrecker which have been really great this year. Now i'm thinking of getting another ball but not sure which one. I like the other two as they give me more finish than I've ever had so would like to carry on with a ball that's helps me out at the back. My revs are not great so need all the help I can get. Thanks.

does it ever seem like the wrecker is too strong? Or does it seem like you need something between the wrecker and the soul?

The Wrecker would be a lot stronger if I had a lot more revs and speed but i'm a bit short of that. It does react nicely but I would like something that even finishes stronger. The Soul does the same on a lot more oil so i'm happy with both, maybe something with that extra snap at the back. Thanks.

It sounds like you may be in the market for more of a benchmark piece.  In this case, some general recommendations would be to look at the IQ Tour Solid or the Disturbed.  Both of these balls will be a bit stronger than the Wrecker yet will complement it well.  Same with the Defiant Soul as either of these 2 would be a nice step down.  Both will handle Medium to Medium-Heavy patterns.  It will just depend on the reaction you're looking for (smooth vs angular).
Current Ball Arsenal

MOTIV Jackal Legacy
MOTIV Mythic Jackal

Med-Heavy:
MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire

MOTIV Sigma Sting
MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire

Thanks Tommyboy I have been looking at the Disturbed. I have just had the custom IT thumbs done as I did grip a little with my thumb. Hope I get a cleaner release and a few more revs.

Well I too am looking for a new heavy oil ball. I currently use 15lb but am seriously considering 16lb for this purchase. Looking for some feedback on pro pin/cg as well as ball specs based upon my specs-300-325/rev-16 degrees of tilt, 4-7/8 and 1/2 up-I am a tweener working diligently at developing an inside the inner jaw swing slot and more forward roll.

Any feedback on ball specs-top weight-etc would be appreciated-I am looking for a symmetrical solid for patterns over 44 feet long.

This is my first post and I enjoy reading here except when some strong emotions are revealed. I am trying to be as much a student of the craft as possible.

Tenboard - I personally avoid pro pin and pro cg balls as they can limit your drilling options.  Pro pin and pro cg balls are simply rejects but ball companies market them as "pro" to entice bowlers to buy so they can recoup as much costs as possible.

As far as top weight and pin distance...I go with 2.5 - 3 oz top weight and 3 - 4 inch pins but a good a good driller can give you the reaction you want with about any top weight and pin specs.

A good symmetrical solid for a long pattern is the new Storm Marvel-S.

As far as promoting more forward roll, a good way is to point your middle finger toward your target during your set up and swing...it helps you stay behind the ball longer.  To promote more side roll, point your index (first finger) finger.

Thank you for your reply millertime0299. You have been a great help. That is the ball I was considering and will purchase.
