I bowled in Summer league last nite. Bowled against a team that just kept kicking our butts. Woman on the other team was throwing an UltraZone and tearing it up. Lanes were medium-dry to me. This woman with a 180 average shot a 221, 210 the first two games with her UltraZone.

Ball was clean thru the fronts and held well in the middle of the lane. It had explosive backends, and moderate movement overall. However, toward the end of her 2nd game, the ball began to leave funky splits, on this THS. I knew it was time to put it up. She did and went to the Mars.

That is when things got really scary! Wherein, I had to move much deeper and play 25-30 to be able to get to the pocket....she moved right, and played in the track area! Once I saw this, I almost panicked, because I knew she was about to lay some big numbers on us, and really bury us! This ball was smooth as silk thru the fronts, and smooth and strong at the pin deck! I could not believe she was getting such a great reaction, this late into the 3rd game!

The ball had great length and smoothness, even while playing the track area. Everyone else was forced to move to a different part of the lane. Lucky for us, her lack of patience in getting re-aligned paid off for us. Because she didn't strike in her first couple of frames using this ball, she switched back to her Ultra! And it was all downhill from there! Split after split, after split. Thanks to that blunder, we were able to win the last game of the nite!

But I was very impressed with the movement I saw from the Mars. It's definitely a great ball to have for choppy beat up lanes, and one I am penciling in as a "must-have" for my arsenal.

I'm not sure what you're getting at except that a 180 avg. woman had a good night using both balls. Either one could have worked when thrown on the right line (with all the other variables).

Both balls are hybrids, and both are very good pieces. I have a few friends on Roto Grip staff and have seen the Mars in action. It is a great addition to their fine line-up of bowling balls. I also expect the two new Nomads to do very well.

What we all need to remember is that NEARLY ANY bowling ball that is thrown effectively, and playing the correct part of the lane, has a chance to be great on any given night.

This post is not intended to do anything except compliment Roto Grip and Brunswick for producing fine bowling balls. After that it's really up to the BOWLER. There simply isn't a "magic pill" that will be THE BALL for every bowler and on every condition.

I think his point was that the motion of the Mars as a dry lane ball impressed him so much he wants to buy one, even though the lady who threw it only two frames was too stubborn to stick with it and was bound and determined to use the same medium/heavy oil ball all night and failed miserably the last game doing so.

That's okay, Dan. I may have missed that point. But that's what hybrid covers do they tend to smooth out reaction somewhat, as opposed to a pearl.

The Mars is a good choice, maybe not for extreme dry, but a nice ball. It's dependent on who is using it. She may have made it look more tame than my buddies who are on staff... It hooks plenty in the right hand.

Sorry, Jesse James, if I misunderstood your post a bit. You've got to agree that all too often bowlers are looking for the "magic ball". One that's great on every condition and regardless of who is using it. That is a pet peeve of mine so it came out in my post.

i agree the mars is a great piece but it is definetly not for dry. it is alot stronger than advertised

Yes,... I was impressed with both peices actually. But I was wishing I could use the lady's Mars, when I saw her pull it out!
