Cell not rolling right?
« on: September 25, 2009, 12:38:36 PM »
Hey Guys!

I'm kinda new to the board, but i thought you guys could help me out.

So i got a cell pearl and a cell from a member here, who is awesome.
The balls were basically brand new and drilled the same.

Anyways, the pearl is rolling awesome.
Threw it today for the first time and rolled a 258.

The cell seemed much weaker than the pearl.
The hook was weak... the hitting power was weak...
So what could be the problem?

I throw thumbless, but i don't crank the heck out of the ball, i'm much more controlled and i believe i throw more like a tweener.

Thanks!

If the cell pearl was working good and the cell solid acted weak on the same condition. Thats says it was too dry for the cell solid, It was burning up and rolling out.

In that case, would it help if i added some polish to the cell?
Or sand it up to 4000 grit?

Thanks a bunch
Brandon

Both of those could help, either alone or done together depends on the conditions.

But why would you want too? Just use the pearl, that's what it's made for. You already seen that it worked great on that shot, why try to make the cell solid into another pearl.

Use the cell solid for when it's oilier.

Or you could just leave it as is and save it for a heavy condition? Not all balls need to react the same on the one condition.

Fair enough,

I was just excited because i heard of such awesome things from the cell...
So far, Roto-Grip has been awesome.

I guess i will have to wait till league night to try the cell...

Thanks!

lets try this, use the cell pearl on the condition it works on ,and when the pearl doesnt hook because there is more oil ,use the solid, and keep in mind that for most people the cell is more of a hard finished than a big hooker. What i learned about the cell is that it works much better when you can play it more direct its not going to recover, for most people, from the 2 board if you are standing on 30.

I agree, the Cell is not really a 'hook monster' like some people like.  I don't think most people can swing this ball. I bought it thinking that it was very versatile and a lot of people where bowling well at my house.  It turns out in my hand, it's way too much ball to bowl a direct line, but no recovery from a swing shot.  (Remember, I'm a lefty also)  When I first threw it, I thought holy crap, this thing does nothing.  It was burnt at my feet.  Then I threw it on fresh with no hand from 7 to 10, it killed the pocket.  However, my A game is not that type of down and in shot.  I am not finding much use for the Cell at all around here.  There's just not enough oil.  We were going to try extender polish, but I figure why fight a ball when there are so many balls to match this house condition.

when the cell first came out many people said the same thing. "i can use the cell for game 1 at best and then shell down game 2 and 3"

far too much ball on most THS patterns!

I think this is the very reason why they came out with the rouge cell. more stored energy then the original. but im betting even that ball is too strong as i only pull that ball out when the lanes are soupy.
id stick with the cell pearl and if you see more oil pull out the cell.

I figured it out now and i'm loving the cell!

I play a more direct line and it absolutely crushes the pocket!

I just bought the rogue cell and love it. It was drilled using the illustrated (5X3 - pin above the ring finger to the right) layout from the rogue's drill instructions. I kept it at box condition. I put a medium amount of revs on the ball and throw about 14.5 - 15mph. The rogue works great for me on a THS.

I'm thinking of purchasing either another rouge cell OR the original cell and have it drilled to be more aggressive plus alter the cover.

With that in mind, I had the current rouge drilled to go long and have a strong back end reaction. I throw a direct line around second arrow and it snaps to the pocket every time on a THS. Even if I miss right it snaps back with authority.

However, I entered a local tournament where there was a considerable amount of outside oil and if I missed right just a few boards...the ball never recovered.

A good portion of that is operator error but I would like to purchase either another rouge cell or the original cell and have it drilled to hopefully give me a bit more bit.

My current rogue is not really a hook monster on the heavier patterns that I see so I would like to see if I can convert one.

blaichui,

How do you have your cell drilled?
