why isn't the Grenade ...
« on: May 14, 2010, 02:22:34 PM »
a pearl urethane, especially with that core (early and even reacting)???

Or is it just an in-house version of the Storm Natural with the exact same coverstock?
Sad if this is true.

"charlest
So far, the Natural seems to polish up a lot easier than the Hype or the Lane#1 Liberator. That's the best I can offer right now. The Hype has been a lot of serious work to get a shine on it, with everything at my disposal. It's just getting there now."

Thanks

NOT a remake. Very different core. I had a half dozen or so of the originals

So it is, I never had an old one. But I think the idea is for it to have the same look. But the oil is different these days so they needed a stronger core.

In it's day the original was as strong as any of the other balls of it's era(Blue Hammer,Cobra etc.) I just punched up my original Gold Pearl Grenade for my summer league in the wood center i bowl.

I think you'll all be surpised how easily it polishes up. It held polish fine for me today and I didn't touch the surface before adding the polish.

That block really is long also, whomever said that had it right, and it clears the fronts a lot cleaner than the other urethanes I have seen recently.

That being said, I've pushed for a pearl urethane for a couple years and gosh darnit was I disappointed when Brunswick beat us to it.

Hey everyone!

It has been a minute since I posted on here.  There is some reasoning to our release of the Grenade.

1.  I was getting emails probably 2-3 week solid for 6 months from staffers and customers requesting Roto Grip to also release a urethane ball after the Natural came out.

2.  Wes Malott

3.  Since Storm did extremely well with the solid Urethane we didn't want the Roto Grip brand to jump the gun and release a pearl.  Most likely you will see a pearl version from Storm in the future.  After that has been out a year we may or may not do a pearl as well.

Hope that helps clear up any questions.

Thanks have a good weekend!

Roto follows Storm?  I always thought it was the other way around.  Roto tries something, if successful, then Storm releases its version of the same concept.  If not, then Storm releases a variation of the concept.

Virtual Gravity --> Mutant Cell
Natural --> Grenade

Looks legit to me. I always thought the point of Roto Grip at this point was to release stuff very similar to Storm at a slightly later date and at a lower price point. Seems to be very successful.

Interesting difference between the natural and the Grenade. Natural U2S cover has a hardness of 78-80 and the Grenade Retrothane cover has a hardness of 75-78.

Coloring actually has a part of the hardness. Pearlizer in urethane produces tighter closed pours in a ball so it makes pearls naturally harder.

a dark colored urethane vs a brightly colored urethane is the same example. Dark colored urethanes will be harder, the coloring agent makes the cover slightly softer.

i've just drilled a grenade and going to take it out onto the lanes shortly.
