My poor Mystic
« on: March 26, 2008, 05:59:11 AM »
My Mystic's been sitting downstairs in my 2 ball tote for the last week or so, and I just brought it up to put it away and I find this;

So long Mystic, rest in pieces...

Joe,

The place for this question/concern is at tech@rotogrip.com.  Just tell them you spoke to Roger and I said we would replace it.

Sorry for your loss.

302 - I apologize about the issues we have had the last two years with the Epics.  If you buy a Cell I can promise you that you will not have the same problems you had in the past.

Give us another shot...?

Thanks Roger I'll send them a message. Still like my Roto stuff, and still want to get my hands on a Cell.

Unfortunately, I've had this experience lately as well with a Battle and a Saga.   I've also been told by a friend of mine that the Horizon Solid I gave him is starting to crack around the fingers.  And another friend tell me that an Agent was starting to crack around the fingers.  Pair that with a Paradigm that I owned last year that basically split in half, thats 5 Storm/Roto balls that have cracked out of the 15 or so that I owned, so I think I'm done w/ Storm and Roto for a while.  Just so people don't ask, I take very good care of my equipment (cleaned regularly, not left in car, etc).

I bought a Rival towards the end of last summer and I really like the way it rolls for me.  It's the most versatile ball I've ever owned and it's usable on almost anything.  So I've bought a Resurgence, Momentum and a Wrath Dead Flush during the course of this season and hopefully the same thing doesn't happen.  The only Storm/Roto ball I still own is a T-Road Pearl and hopefully, it doesn't have the same fate as the others.  But if it does, I see a Wrath High Flush in my future.

Hmm.  I only have the Mystic in the Roto line but I have bought a bunch of the newer Storm stuff and have never experienced any cracking at all.  I use finger grips and the supposedly recommended bridge width for using grips.  I also know a few people who use these balls and no one has ever had one crack even around the fingers.

I had two Storm balls crack badly at the same time over the summer.  My ball driller had several other Storm/Rotogrip balls from that same shipment crack at the same time.  Either something happened along the way in shipping, or they just had a bad batch of coverstock.  No matter what, Storm had no problem replacing all of them, and none of the replacements have cracked.  In fact, my Special Agent has probably got 150-200 games on it and is in better condition than any other ball I've had in years.  Not a crack or scratch anywhere on it except a small gouge from the ball return.  They had some problems a couple years ago with their coverstocks, but they've fixed them now.  Much, much more durable than before.

I find it very interesting that so many people have trouble with balls cracking. I don't think it is a temprature thing. I live in Minnesota where having your bwoling balls freeze is just a fact of life and I have never had a ball crack and have only had one friend lose a ball to a crack. Also up here we get up to 100 degrees every summer and there is no trouble there. I mean in the summer I wrap my older balls in towels and leave them in the garage to get oil out. I think it might have something to do with humidity. Dry and hot or wet and cold are the conditions we don't see up here so maybe that is what you have to watch out for?
Always be sincere, even when you don't mean it.
