Hyper Cell - First Roto Grip ball I've bought and want more
« on: January 29, 2014, 05:02:23 PM »
After coming back into bowling the past year, I've bought many Storm balls, I like my balls to smell good :) one exception was a Dv8 Endless Nightmare which cracked while sitting in the locker at bowling center. To replace the Dv8 I decided to buy Hyper Cell and this ball is amazing! First Roto Grip ball I've bought and I'm very happy I did(bowled 715 series and another 227 game after.. My avg is about 180 realistically) However, the Hyper Cell is a big step from my Lights Out which is definitely the favorite ball I ever had. I'm looking for a ball to put between Lights Out and Hyper Cell. I been looking at Asylum to fit in between the 2. But I'm very noob at building a proper arsenal so I'd like some input. Does anyone have both Lights Out and Asylum to compare? Or better yet, all 3 of the balls. I also considered the IQ Fusion but... I didn't have a very good time with my IQTP so I'm not sure if I should try another IQ.

If you didn't have a good time with the IQ Tour Pearl then I would definitely go with the Asylum which I thinks still naturally fits better between the Hyper Cell and Lights Out than an IQ Fusion

I would also go with the Asylum, but be advised the Asylum is pretty strong as well, I would not put a strong drill pattern on it. Talk it over with your pro shop. I have my H/C pin up , My Asylum pin even with some polish so it will push. You will love the Asylum as well, hits hard, but it has a smooth reaction.
There's two kinds of music METAL and bullshit!

Asylum right now is my favorite ball!!
Lights out is my second favorite!!

They work well together. Just when the asylum grabs a bit early, the lights out goes perfect!

First of all, thank you all for the inputs :)

SVstar - I agree, I don't want to buy another IQ while having doubts, but the ball color and scent was so appealing... I had to consider it lol

Metal - I have my HC slightly Pin UP and Lights Out has slightly Pin DOWN. I was thinking of getting Asylum drilled exactly like Lights Out so it'll be stronger than Lights Out for sure then? My HC is super strong compared to Lights Out so I'm not worried about Asylum being stronger than HC but I wouldn't know for sure. Really like my Lights Out with Pin down though, it's the smoothest ball I ever had while hitting hard as well.

vkowalski - Then before Asylum, Lights Out was your favorite ball? ;) I see on your sig that you drilled the two differently but works for you. What would you think if I drill my Asylum same as my Pin DOWN Lights Out?

The lights out reminds me very much if my favorite ball of all time the Roto Grip Nomad. Very similar motion just weaker. It's a great ball. I bought the asylum after it and love it. I drilled the asylum with a lower val angle because I was afraid it would be too smooth. I did drill pin to pap distances the same with P3 holes on both. I think they would compliment each other just as well if they are drilled the same. I took polish off my lights out (4000) and it's a great 1-2 ths punch. For me the hyper cell is too strong for my ths but I didn't buy it for ths. I couldn't be more pleased with the asylum/lights out combination. Best 1-2 punch on ths I've had in years.

Also FYI, the asylum is strong but not nearly as string as hyper cell unless you are using hyper cell on wrong condition. I took hyper cell to 4000 surface and in a fresh 40 ft ths the hyper cell was 5-6 boards stronger. But it only lasted half a game before it burned up. The asylum I can throw all night if I want. It just keeps coming!

My Hyper Cell is still OOB and worked brilliant for me unlike my Lights Out which I immediately took Polish off with 2000/4000 grit. Sounds like Asylum would be a good choice. When I started throwing my Hyper Cell, I couldn't believe I didn't try Roto Grip sooner... heard some really good words for Defiant Soul too, I'll need to get one of those if they ever go on discount sale :D
