Was Ebonite's Illusion officially called the Optyx Illusion on the approved list? Because otherwise, wouldn't there be some copyright issue here?

Anyways, sounds like it should be an angular pearl, good for your THS.

i would like to see Roto-Grip re-release the sonic series again, or add to that particular line...that was a good line.

There was an AZO Illusion as well.

This looks like a Horizon that push easier and come off the spot much harder.  The Horizon is awesome, but can have early flare syndrome and lag a bit when oil transitions into the backend due to that super low R.G.  Any word on what grit it will be finished at?

What do you think this ball will do compared to the Mystic?  They look pretty similar don't they?

Longer with a more angular breakpoint compared to the Mystic...although the Mystic could certainly turn a corner...

Hello everyone!

The Illusion is set to be released tentatively on November 1st along with the Storm Attitude Shift.

We've combined the Ultimate Vision coverstock that we use on our Epics and our new Helios II core.  The Helios II is a higher RG with a lower differential than what is in the Mystic and Horizons.  This translates into more length and a harder turn at the breakpoint.

Sorry about the logo.  I clicked that link from Buddies and because they have their pro shop logo in the background it really distorts the bowling ball logo a little bit.

If you have any questions let me know.

Thanks,

I noticed that on the RotoGrip website, when you pick a ball, under ball facts theres a space for fragrance.  I know all of the current balls have no fragrance but are they planning on putting it in? Maybe on the new Illusion? I think it would be cool, I like the fragrances from storm.

It's quite possible. I have a Silver Streak SE that has strong traces of the black cherry scent that comes on one of the Tropical Storms, even though the ball is not listed with any fragrance.

That's fairly common since Storm pours there stuff, sometimes theres still some of there material left in the machines. Don't know if they plan on adding fragrances to there stuff though.

Now that the ball is on the approved list, I wanted to give everyone here a sneak peak.

I had the pleasure to test this ball in the past couple weeks and the best thing I can tell you now is those of you here who were Streak fans need to get in line with you local pro shop for the initial releases from Utah.  I put my test balls in the same two favorite Streak layouts and have a look in my bag that I haven't had for 3+ years.

I only threw it in box finish and found I could shape it any way I needed to on both THS and PBA-X patterns - something I could do with my solid Streaks of the past.  I indicated to Hank that I want to see it with a little 2000 texture to see how different they could be.  I'll get that done early next week.

Please let me clarify.  Because I saw such a marked difference between the Solid, Pearl and SE, I'll tell you that although the Illusion is a pearl, it reminded me most of the solid in terms of how smooth it was throughout the first 40' of the lane.  If anyone has more specific questions on what/how I tested, please PM me and I'll be happy to answer any of your questions.

If, it's like the Streak's this will be a good ball.  I saw Steve at Willow Creek few years back with a Solid Steak in very deep and he carried the world.

I always thought the Streak line was RG's best line of balls.

Last week at our PBA-X league meeting, I was able to
tryout Steve's Illusion on last years Masters pattern.
Knowing going in that this ball would be closer to a
"Streak" reaction and pearl.. first look at the Illusion
had me wondering if the info on it being a pearl was right..
An e-mail to Hank confirmed that it was.. As I was practicing
I thought the idea of a pearl on a fresh pattern would be
brutal and read every little change.. the Illusion rolled like
a solid than a pearl... looking at the ball baffled resulted
in the e-mail...  In short, I look foward to seeing what the
Illusion does on a house shot for Steve.. I'm making room in
the bag for this beauty!!!

Isn't the ultimate vision cover a pearl particle?
