Title: New Roto Grip Balls
Post by: bowlingman817 on April 24, 2016, 08:16:14 PM
Roto has 2 new releases in the HP 1 line coming out called the Freestyle. One looks to be a two tone reddish color and the other looks like the old Storm Lucid.

It was in my May issue of Bowlers Journal I just received. Looks pretty interesting, both balls have a polished hybrid shell but both have different coverstocks. It's says Psyched and Stoked hybrid reactive coverstocks to chose from, you determine your breakpoints.

Any idea when? After seeing this backwards pattern they put down for my shot today I was looking into a loco to play very straight

It's interesting that they might be moving on from the Loco balls so soon after the Shout and Scream balls were in production for three years (albeit in different colors each year). Also might signal a change from their coverstock naming conventions by going away from the numbering system.

Good

The numbering thing is stupid.....

Nucleus core, cytoplasmic cover stock...stuff like that rocks my world!

Personally I would be very disappointed to see the Locos go. The Loco Solid reminds me of a weaker IQ Tour. Saw a ton of those on the rack for the burn. Guess I better pick one up on clearance.

Hmmm looks ride-ish on the logo! Those punks...offshoot of the match core too.  But the numbers are probably way different.

I am interested to see what the core numbers look like

I wouldn't expect them to be too different from the loco series.

Number wise that is.

Given the review, that the current (May) issue of BJI, just gave the Storm Match balls (with an apparently very similar core to that in this new Freestyle), I'd suspect that the Freestyle balls will not replace the Loco balls, but be a slight step up from them.
(I don't know, but I suspect. It depends on how strong the Freestyles' core numbers are and how strong their coverstock winds up being.)

From chris shlemer

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Roto Grip fans of all ages...

I wanted to take a moment and shed some light in regards to the upcoming issue of Bowlers Journal that has recently started to circulate. Inside this issue there is an ad featuring the new releases in the HP1 line from Roto Grip slated to launch this summer.

However, due to circumstances beyond our control with the processes in which we obtain approvals, it was in our best interest to change the name of these balls prior to the official launch. The colors you have seen or will see in the ad are in fact the colors of the balls as those will remain the same. Once we have this renaming process completed we will definitely let everyone know.

Roto Grip would like to thank you for your understanding through this process. We just wanted to help make things clear and eliminate as much confusion as possible as we roll out this new launch in the coming weeks...

Again we truly appreciate your support!

Kind regards,
Chris Schlemer
Roto Grip Brand Manager

From what I read on a roto grip group there's also a new hp4 and hp2 coming as well
From the current lineup, I can see a new sanded hybrid release for the HP4 line, a new shiny pearl for the HP 3 line and a sanded hybrid for the HP 2 line. What does everyone else think?

Looks like Roto Grip did some cleaning up on their site today. These are the only balls listed now:

HP4: Eternal Cell

HP3: Hy-Wire, Critical, Haywire

HP2: Hectic, Wrecker

HP1: None

Seems like the Locos are definitely out. It's interesting that the Wrecker is still being kept around, although that is/was a really good ball. The HP3 category continues to be really good and versatile. I think it's Storm's best line overall.

Surprised the Devour is gone.

The Devour hasn't sold that well from what I've been told.

I wonder what the other releases besides the HP1 balls will be spec wise.

As good as the Devour has always seemed, I've definitely seen a lot more Hectics

The former Freestyles will be called Hustle.

The former Freestyles will be called Hustle.

To expand on this:

http://www.rotogrip.com/balls/hustle-pro

http://www.rotogrip.com/balls/hustle-say

It's interesting that for 15 lb. balls the core numbers are 2.53 RG and 0.030 DIFF. That's quite a change from the 2.57 RG seen on the Shout/Scream and the Loco balls.

Seems like the the Hustle SAY has more of a controlled reaction while the Hustle PRO has more backend. I'm going to go out on a (short) limb and say both of these balls will be viewed as really good values that might be for more than just dry lanes. Likely the "best" balls in the HP1 line yet.

So why did they retire the Menace already? Haven't it only been on the marker for a year?
Was the cage core that bad? :P

So there should be 2 new balls coming in the HP4 line then, since the Menace and Skid are gone? Wow!!!

The Menace just seemed to be an odd release. The cage core seemed hit or miss, some people liked it but some people didn't.

Well, that's nothing new really. They usually come out with two new HP4 balls every bowling season. Storm's release schedule changed a little bit last year though so it's hard to say exactly when they come out, but I don't think much is going to change overall for the Roto Grip division.

It'll be interesting to see what coverstock variation comes first. The last four have went Eternal Cell (polished solid), Menace (2000 solid), Hyper Cell Skid (polished pearl), and Sinister (4000 hybrid). My guess is a new hybrid with the Snap Lock coming out around the same time and the Alpha Crux just being released a couple months ago.

I imagine that a new core is coming too. It doesn't seem like there any left to bring back out of retirement with them having already done it with the nucleus and triliptic. The cage seems to have run it's course and they're probably thinking it's time to get a "new" cornerstone piece on the market.

I doubt they would release two balls in the hp4 line at once. Also I don't expect another hp3 ball right now since the Hy-Wire just came out.

Yeah, that's something to keep an eye on. With the Hustle balls coming out there should only be something in the HP4 and HP2 lines yet to be announced. They will probably be on the market in the typical August slot though and not late June.

It's interesting that they're spreading out the release schedule and getting away from  two releases per year (it was August and January I think). Makes some sense though with how the rest of the market is going.
