Battle vs Odyssey
« on: October 27, 2007, 02:05:52 AM »
Can anyone tell me the big difference on these two. I love my saga for light/medium and my battle for medium/low heavy. The battle for me stuggles to cut through the heavier oil and was wondering how the odyssey does on it. I have the battle drilled with a 1-2 pin next to the ring finger. I have a medium speed and like to play down and in.

Thanks

The Battle should be earlier than the Odyssey, with teh same drill pattern.
The Battle is Particle, the Odyssey solid resin.

I am not sure if you will find something that will cut through oil much better than a Battle. How many games do you have on it??? Could need some maintainance to get it back.

The odyssey and battle are like peas in a pod. The Battle is a low load particle so it works for alot of players with higher ball speed on some house shots. the Odyssey is more versatile because it's simply resin. The Ody can replace the Saga with the right surface changes, but i would still take a saga as my favorite ball.

i have both. the Odyssey is drilled pin under bridge with cg at 60 degrees with wt hole on val its a pro cg . ball, battle is drilled pin right and above ring about an inch same layout on cg and mb its a pro pin ball. At oob the odyssey is more versatile and probably stronger off the break and definitely a stronger back end move.
I just had them both taken to 500 and the odyssey is the stronger board probably by 10 or so boards. this was the first time i threw them with this surface and it was on a shot with out of bounds past 12 tamer in the middle but still a challenge. needless to say neither ball would move from the oob. when i moved inside the odyssey was way too strong and the battle looked like a plastic ball in comparison. I would have thought i could play the same shot or even move right and go straighter, not,it didn't even wrinkle,I am so confused.
I thought sanding it would have given it a higher coefficient of friction and traction which should have allowed it too hook more ,fooled me. I kept moving left with the odyssey but inside was just too dry for it. It ran past the head pin where the battle wouldn't even turn the corner. nvs just for comparison sake, made my odyssey look like a sponge that stopped it never flipped in the least 60 feet period. And it has the same drill as the odyssey.
For my money the odyssey is the stronger more versatile of the 2 if you are thinking about a battle for anything other than a med.  maybe med. heavy shot look elsewhere.I wont even carry it to my pba league anymore.
To add insult to injury i went to another bowling alley to vent. The shot wasn't nearly as tight ,but it was no push over either. med short with good backends. A shot where the battle shouldn't have worked due to lack of oil and it worked great.nice move to the pocket good carry no over under and this is at 500 grit. The sanding didn't make the balls more aggressive it actually gave them a more consistent and predictable look. I can keep the battle at 500 and use it on a ths i guess i need a lump of charcoal for true oil.
Any way sorry for the essay, but in conclusion the odyssey is definitely the better ball.IMHO
