Grand Illusion
« on: January 28, 2009, 02:13:33 AM »
Trying to re-build my bags. I play on bowling a full slate of regionals this year and local tournaments coming up. I took 2 years off of bowling and now am back into it in full swing. My arsanal right now is (2) T Road Pearls, ThunderStruck, Hyroad, and some older Brunswick stuff. Want to keep the newer TRP, TS, and HR. But I was thinking of maybe 2 Cells, a Cell Pearl. And I've become a HUGE fan of the Grand Illusion. But my question is simple, is the GI much like a TRP or a HR?? Input please folks

When I compared them back-to-back at a Storm/Roto Open House, the Grand Illusion was much smoother than the Hy-Road at the OOB finish, and of course much much smoother than the T-Road Pearl.  The Hy-Road and Grand Illusion gave me very different looks at the pocket though they were somewhat similar strengths.

if your planning on bowling alot of regionals your gonna need to look at the fact those shots breakdown fast and the smoother balls will give you a better look in the mid games. if i were you i would try to look at having at least 2 balls specifically for each pattern and one or two that overlap amd make sure to get a med. ball with a negative layout that will help you on almost every pattern

Most of my stuff now is on the negative side. My Hyroad Thunderstruck and 1 of the TRoad Pearls are negative. I want to keep all my layouts on the negative side, for me, I can get a little more straight down the lane and keep it more stable.

Mike,
I have a Grand Illusion with the pin under the middle finger(5.5" from my PAP)  and a flare increasing WH.  The ball is a pure monster! Its definately a smooth reaction, but what I love about is the way it finishes.  A lot of times when I go with smoother drills I have issues with the ball finishing, but I have yet to experience this with the Grand illusion.

I bowl in PBA experience leagues and have been able to square up on just about every shot.  I have mine @ OOB finish, so when I hit carrydown it does want to slide a tad, but I can imagine that it would handle carrydown a lot better if you scuffed the cover up a bit.

I have not personally thrown the TRP or HR, but I can tell you from first hand that you having the Cell, Cell Pearl, and GI.  You've got one heck of a lineup in yout bag! I hope this helps.
