RSX or Vertigo
« on: July 11, 2005, 08:20:56 AM »
Thinking about getting either a RSX or a Vertigo for Fall leagues, and want something that will handle carrydown on medium-oil synthetics, and allow me to still swing the ball and get it back to the pocket.  How do these balls compare, and which one of these (or others) might work the best for my tweener style (see profile), and how should it be drilled to give me the backend that I'm looking for?

Take all this for what it's worth.

I am a tweener and own both balls.  At Nationals I was more effective at playing in deeper with the Vertigo with the Out of Box finish.  The guy at the Roto-Grip booth told me to take some of the polish off the RSX, and I would be able to move in deeper, but I didn't try it.

The Vertigo is Assymetrical as well, so you could probably get a sharper break point with it.  The Vertigo moves a little earlier.

Not to say that the RSX isn't one of my favorites, but I think the Vertigo is more aggressive at reading the midlane out of the box.  The RSX gave me more backend out of the box.

I don't totally recall what drilling I used for the Vertigo, but I think that I put the pin at 4", the MB in the strong position, (just right of thumb).  CG just a smidge over the midline.  My RSX was Pin at 3 3/8", with CG about 1.5" right from Grip center.  Both balls had 3-4" pins.

Hope that helps.

I have the vertigo and since the cover is dull and the ball is very strong it burns up real fast if you don't have enough oil in the head and mid.  I think a slightly polished vertigo would be great for a med oil condition with moderate carrydown.

A ball to compare the Vertigo to would be the Epic.  The RSX should be wearker than the Vertigo or the Epic.  I have not seen the Epic yet, but from the reviews on this website, I'm sure it would have more backend than the Vertigo.  I am very familiar with that ball.

I have a vertigo, pin above ring finger and MB just right of thumb, and my style is very similar to yours. I can use it on pretty much any lane condition except the extremes. Considering you have carrydown I think it is an excellent choice.
