what would be a good replacement for the defiant

If you want to stay within Storm/Roto, I'd lean towards the Sure Lock.  Similar overall motion to the OG Defiant but the Sure Lock seems slightly more continuous.

I definitely liked the OG Defiant and had one until the OG No Rules solid came out.

I still own one .... Still going strong; I also recommend the Sure Lock.
