Picked up a Neptune
« on: February 05, 2008, 04:38:37 PM »
What should I expect from this piece?  The current layout puts the pin about 6" from my axis.  I'm gonna have to plug the fingers, so moving the pin position is possible.  How weak is this ball overall?

Andrew,

I don't have the Neptune, but I have two Saturns.  Same core (inverted in the Neptune, I believe) but the Neptune is a pearl coverstock and the Saturn is solid.

I would say the Saturn is anything but weak.  One of them is drilled pin 5" from axis, CG at 30 degrees, no weighthole, surface at 2000 Abralon.  On a medium THS with 38' length (buffed to 40'), I will use this Saturn once the track area is starting to burn up.  It is still pretty strong.

I have considered picking up a Neptune and would put the pin 5-1/2" from axis.  I'm very satisfied with my Saturns and I also have the Venus (same core, pearl particle coverstock).  Overall, a lot of bang for the buck.

I tossed the Neptune a few times tonight during league.  It wasn't dry enough to get the ball to hit.  The backend reaction was alittle more than I expected, but overall not too bad.

After league tonight, I tossed about 8-10 shots with the Neptune.  It isn't a dry lane ball thats for sure.  What it doesn't do in the fronts, it does all on the back.  My first shot, I moved to the track and tossed a shot up 8, thru the beak.  I moved a 4 and 3 left and found a good consistent look at 11 board.

Mark that is with a 6" pin to pap, 1/4oz side and 1/2oz finger.  The surface is grey scotchbrite plus bwick high gloss polish.
