I was actually thinking of resanding mine at 800 to let it grab alittle earlier.

I know. but usually for me they are so smooth they act like higher grit. Last night my SS Particle was only hooking about 2-3 boards more than my SS Pearl that has just a little of the polish taken off. So I thought I would just sand down and refinish the SS Particle back to 800. But I will wait until I can get my thumb out of the ball completely clean first to see if that is the problem. Hanging just a little bit.

Sorry I guess I was a little off topic wasn't I. No I haven't polished it yet. I have only gotten to throw mine for 4 games total so far. I like it though. It's replacing my V2 solid and complementing my SS Pearl nicely. Is yours hooking to early? Is that why you want to polish it?

actually no, I was looking at this ball polished for mediums with say a 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 drilling on it to go beneath my Fuel.  Then take the step down to the Pearl after that, then a Sonic.........you get the idea

I love my Silver Solid, but it MOVES sooo hard, I was wondering about the Particle because it should be a smoother ball all in all based upon the particles and it's burning a little more energy on the way down the lane than the solid....smoother overall.......

Well, mine is drilled 4 x 3 with a weight hole 1" below PAP. I think my Pearl is drilled roughly 4-1/2 x 3-1/2. (I have to wait for Doug to reply with the stats on this one) It starts about 5-6' sooner than the Pearl and hooks about 3-4 boards more but I was playing in more oil than I am used to. I think it was a "shorter" medium heavy pattern but I am not certain. It acts the same as last year when I bowled here and I could barely get my V2 sanded to 600 to move. I shot a pair of 215 with the Particle and a 257 with the Pearl last night. The Particle's games would have been a lot better if I could have gotten out a lot cleaner and without the 2 splits. We had higher than normal humidity here in Albuquerque so my thumb swelled up more than normal. It should definitely fit between the Pearl and the Fuel.

My 2 cents  my particle is in box finish and a guy I bowl with has his particle polished (not sure of the exact grit)  both balls are drilled 3 3/8 stacked. On a medium oil hoise shot the polished worked better because it got a bit more length and carried the corner (10's) better.  Mine was hooking earlier and leaving weak 10's.

If you are going to shine it I recommend the Storm Proacta-Clean.  That shines our particle balls up REALLY well.  Unless you have a lot of ball speed and not a lot of revolutions I recommend you shine the Silver Streak Particle to get the best use out of it.

Thanks,

Jeff, the SSParticle will be way too much ball even polished for this.  I work for a Roto Grip rep who is great friends with Roto Staffer Tony Walton and this guy throws the ball hard and fast and his Silver Streak Particle with a label drilling is still too much ball for him.  He polished it and it actually hooked even more.  Longer than box finish, just a much sharper backend.  If you want something smoother than the Silver Streak and silver streak pearl look at an Assault Pearl.  It might sound crazy, but these balls are very smooth and predictable despite being pearlized.  They don't flip very hard but they are very consistant east reading balls that are good on medium or medium-light patterns.

thanks for all the comments guys!!  I'm not sure what I'm doing yet, just kicking things around a little early so I'm not "scrambling" for the 03-04 season.  I'd like to have my arsenal all squared away so I can get a few weeks practice with it.

DP3, I'm medium speed and medium revs,...I'm sure Tony Walton hits the ball harder than I do, but I appreciate your advice and will use it, thanks!

Roger,.....thanks for chiming in !  I though you were busy today ?!?!

Jeff,

After reading your last post I think polishing would work for you. As Roger stated, you don't high speed or revs. I have high speed but about the same revs as you so I usually need a little bit more surface to get it to grab. I had to take my Pearl down already to about 1200 polished to get it to hook. Otherwise I would be using it only on light oil. I also have a lower track than you so that would effect the outcome too. I know when I inquired about this ball to Roger he said most people will polish it unless they plan on using it for a flood. This is my strongest ball so I need it to handle a little more oil right now until I can get a true heavy oiler.

Sorry about my first post not being on topic. I was at work and was already tired and not thinking strait on that one. You helped me decide on getting my SS Pearl and I would like to thank you. Now I have the Particle and thinking about a Fuel instead of a SCB later this summer. Thanks Jeff and Mustang Guy.

Kalannar,
NO PROBLEM!

Hey, I have the Fuel.........drilled 4 strong hole inside pap by 1.5 inches....great ball, very versatile.  I have used it on fresh medium house shots, to heavy, long sloppy stuff!!!

You will love it.  If it's for true heavy oil, drill it to roll, 3x2 hole on pap.
