Getting Mutant back to OOB
« on: February 01, 2010, 03:16:53 PM »
I've thrown my Mutant about 50 games now and it's begining to shine up and go a bit longer than I like (i always clean w/ Powerhouse cleaner after each set). How do I go about getting back to out of box condition? Hit it with a 2000 pad or start at a lower grit and work up to 2000? I loooooved this ball for the first 30 games.

360 grit abralon 60 seconds, to make sure the ball is fully "cut"

then

500 grit abralon    ** lightly ** AND for less time. its just to smooth out the 360 grit scratches just a little bit

then straight to...

2000 grit abralon 60 seconds

the time is approximate but it is what they suggest (60 seconds or more). Just be careful not to use the 500 too long or too much pressure and not to use the 2000 grit pad for too long as you dont want to create a shine... but at this point you could stop at intervals and see if the ball looks like it did oob.

rotogrip has stated that you can clean their dull balls over and over again, but since they use such a rough surface as the base... the surface topography will break down after 30 games or so and that will cause a major loss in performance. (more so then any other factor!)

Might want to have it baked as well.. that is why I got rid of mine.. lost reaction too quickly. Hopefully yours is just the cover shining up, but to be sure I would bake it anyway. Once you do that it should be back to the beast you''ve grown to love!
