Hyper Cell Fused ball review
« on: January 07, 2018, 06:11:22 PM »
Roto Grip fans, this is a good one.

We test with 4 testers on 2 patterns. Compared to No Rules Pearl, No Rules Exist, and Dare Devil Danger

Short excerpt:
Final Thoughts
The Hyper Cell Fused got strong marks and every bowler enjoyed this ball on house and sport. There are no glaring weaknesses. It reminds me that Storm knows how to make hybrids. Add that to a proven core and the formula works. This ball is really along the lines of the Lock but it may not be totally obvious because of the 1500 grit polished finish. But knowing what we know, this ball will be extremely versatile. It’s hard to picture a bowling style that couldn’t benefit from having this type of motion in their bag.

I'd actually drill one of these. The cell core has always intrigued me.

He went to a grading system it appears.

On a different note we both completely agree across the board on this one!

Good review. Definitely getting it.

I agree with everything he said.  Take this ball to 3000 and you virtually have a Lock.

The Lock portion is highly intriguing to me.

I never got to throw the Lock or any ball from that series before, as well as the Cell series,  so this'll be fun!

I like the sound of this. 3000 is what I end up taking a lot of balls too, especially hybrids that come shiny out of the box. I will try it with the box finish, as this surface has worked on some of the asymmetric releases. But the shine will likely come off since I have put polish back on my Intense and my NRP is lane shined.

The good thing is the ball's surface can be changed to suit.  Generally, I'm not a big fan of the 1500 grit polish finish but on this higher end piece, honestly the ball's characteristics smooth out the over/under a lot more than I expected, i.e., really didn't see much.  Still some surface would add more midlane control as surface is always master.  I remember seeing a ton of Locks being used in tournament play.  Time will tell if this will be used as much but it really does have those characteristics.  It just needs more surface to give added control while still benefitting from the punchy heavy rolling nature.

I really loved the original Lock. I had two when I was still throwing 15lbs. Kept one around 2000-3000 grit. Shined the other. I finished the season a couple years ago with a lot of big series with the combo.

I regret not picking up another one when I moved to 14, even when they were being discontinued. I have a Sure Lock and it is also good, plus the other balls I mentioned. However, I feel like the Lock was the perfect high end ball for me.

I hear you.  Bryan, our stroker tester also absolutely loves his Lock and has 2, one shiny and one dull.  Has a Sure Lock as well. Sometimes balls just match up and that core and cover not only matched up, but matched up to a lot of bowlers because of that.
Maybe the Fused in 14 is worth a try given what we saw.  My test ball is 14 so no problems with hit :-)

I already have a Fused coming. Should be here tomorrow. I won a couple prizes in my PSO's annual draw, so I "traded" them in for the Fused. Still owe him a bit, but paying far less than I normally would. I have seen the local Storm staffer throw her Fused (watched your video and Luke's also). She was on the pair next to me last night. I definitely like how it rolls.

Having bowled with and/or against all four of the testers, I know all of their games fairly well. I’m very impressed how well this ball works with each of these disparate styles.  This actually has me thinking this may be the first non-Motiv ball I’ll buy in a couple years.  I was thinking about grabbing a marvel pearl, but I may think about this instead. Or I may think about both.

Another great review Tamer, thanks.
